I have my doubts about that "Real Alpine" PH. What does Alpine win by making/bottling their mainline beers? They already have bragging rights of beer nerds geeking out over it, plus it just undermines potential sales of the wide release beer to have the "better" version floating around. Would not be surprised a bit if it was just them putting some old labels on a run of bottles to see people freak out about how the "real" version is back and chuckle.

You can't put brewed & bottled in Alpine, CA if it's not brewed & bottled in Alpine, CA. They are now owned by a rather large business that has very strict compliance with the ABC.

So if they're making this up on the hill again despite the crappy version simultaneously being brewed and bottled bottled at green flash, what's stopping them from doing OG Nelson and Duet again?

As SDReaper stated it's the lack of Nelson hops. Their source sold the farm to developers. As far as Duet goes they told me that they feel they have the recipe dialed in. I get the distinct feeling that some where down the line a very limited batch of OG Nelson will brewed at Alpine, just sayin.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty clear by the bottle style and that they have an Enjoy By date. Part of why I was asking about them, since I was hoping for opinions on them before people knew it was Green Flash :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Hop Boxed is by far the best " cross over " they have done at GF, its really good IMHO.

Agree 100% Incubate on the hill, if it hits send it down to GF for National distro. Seems pretty plausible to me as a business model. BTW, the next cross over being bottled based on this formula is HFS, probably any day now.

I have a bottle that I didn't even ask for. A friend was there and bought it for me.
    Trade bait????
Oh well, will pawn it off at the next HB/FV bottleshare. Those guys will drink anything!

I had to go look at the one in my fridge after reading this. Sure enough, "best by sept 16". Damn, it even came from the brewery. So they brew it at GF, then ship some to Alpine to sell. Do they do that with the kegs they fill growlers with too?

Just remember that apparently HB is now Hop Boxed and not Hoppy Birthday. Because I had a bottle of Hoppy Birthday the other day to try the GF version for the first time and thought it was terrible. Really miss the OG version of that.

I thought it was fine. Not "amazing, I need another glass of this immediately" like the last time I had it... But still fine.

I think the GF Duet is still better though. That said, none of these beers were really designed to stick around as long as they do now, so the odds of getting a "bad" Duet has definitely increased

True, that could be confusing, I should have posted it as Hop Boxed, and yes I miss the OG Hoppy Birthday, the only session beer I can say I loved.

Concur, I think its the best cross over they have done to date, tastes very close the OG draft version.

    Cheers………..
