Highly doubt it's water related as water is easily analyzed for mineral content and can be adjusted accordingly. As far as batch scale up.... that can do what's called a DOE (design of experiments) to pinpoint where the batch variability lies. Of course running a DOE on huge batches is pretty expensive.

Alpine has magic trolls that come in the brewery at night and do their stuff. Those trolls don't like to cross freeways, so they aren't making it to Mira Mesa. When the Poway brewery opens there is a minute chance the trolls will visit there, as it has a lot of back country not too far away.

They would still need to cross the 8 at some point though. Otherwise they can skip every other freeway I think since the 52 will die off.

There are a lot of places they could cross under 8 - Pine Valley, for example.

Theoretically they could work their way up the Penasquitos Canyon to the Mira Mesa Green Flash, but I think it's just too busy.

Ah ok, I was unclear if going under a freeway was acceptable or not.

I can't wait until GF is open out here in Virginia Beach and we start seeing that Alpine love.

Any of you in the DMV area (DC, MD, VA) there is an Alpine event on Wednesday the 18th at Fireworks Pizza in Arlington, VA. Check out the Fireworks Facebook page for more details.

I just wish you BA's with the oh-so refined-palates would stop drinking the GF Alpines then. Nelson never lasts a day, and Duet usually makes it about another 12 hours. Added bonus is the Duet is not flat and/or full of floaties ... on that note, I have had bottles of Pure Hoppiness and Duet from Alpine that tasted very different from the same beer on tap at Alpine. Maybe they bottle using different water, LOL.

Just for the record, I've never had GF Alpine. I was just continuing the meme. Having fun. Busting balls.

We dont let Trolls into Poway. They get blocked at the 67 by the PoPo.

Long time lurker, first time post for me. Alpine is my favorite brewery. Went there on saturday because they had Expo. It was amazing to see Good, Bad Boy, Nelson, Expo, Duet, Pure Hop all on tap. I couldn't believe how Duet did not taste the same as I once remembered it. I talked to a lady in the brewery about it and she seemed to share my disgust without being verbal about it. Sadly, Duet bottles were the only ones sold out. My friend and I joked around that real Duet is more scarce than PTY right now lol.

Had some hoppy birthday at the iron press yesterday. Had to ask the server if she poured the wrong beer cause it was so different and shitty compared to the real hoppy birthday I've had in the past. Super dark color too. Pissed me off

Exactly, which is why my Hoppy Birthday I had yesterday up in encinitas was craptastic! w00000!

Had a Duet at Waypoint Public this weekend. Definitely not like the Duet I had in LA. This was super tasty and had the similar mouthfeel of other Alpine beers. I'm guessing some bars like this get their kegs directly from Alpine. Others don't and just get shat on.

BTW, I was just thinking about how this is going to negatively affect Alpine's rep for making good beer, especially on BA. I've read some reviews recently for beers like Nelson and Pure Hoppiness that almost have to be based off the GF batches.

FWIW, Waypoint isn't listed on Alpine's draught accounts page. Can't say how accurate it is - you'd probably have to just ask Waypoint.
