    ?

In my fantasy world, FW/Duvel acquires GF for the sole purpose of obtaining the rights to creating Alpine beers the way they should be, then discontinues all other existing GF beers.

I mean it is rather interesting that while FW brewed Pliny, nobody noticed or said anything. That's a testament to Firestone's brewing abilities. Meanwhile, Green Flash has had a year to get these recipes right....

Rumor is that Pat heard all of your complaints and feels bad. So he decided to go the Alchamist route and just make Mandarin Nector at Alpine and nothing else. Thanks Obama.

While I respect your opinion, and FW did a great job replicating Pliny, it is not a fair comparison. FW and RR have similar size brewhouses and that was one beer where RR had all of the hops for Pliny in house or under contract. It wasn't a ramp up, it was transferring production from one facility to another. That was not the case with Alpine/GF. Pat and Chuck came up with these recipes and if they are happy with the product then so be it. But this is just one solitary mans opinion. Good day.

I don't remember when the last time drank a GF beer. Not including the subpar Alpine stuff coming out of GF. And that's been soon after the first few Alpine IPA releases.

FW and RR also have ridiculously high quality standards and brand stewardship, which are just as, if not more, important than similar facilities and ingredients.

When BWSB got a Pliny keg in that was from FW I went down and had a glass. Didn't taste the same. I'm sure I said something here on it. For me, I thought it was off.

Yes they do. They are probably two of the best breweries in the world for that. Is your inference that Alpine and Green Flash do not?

How to solve the problem. GF brews all Alpine beers except Nelson, Keene Idea, Pure Hoppiness, Exponential Hoppiness, Good and Great which Alpine brews exclusively. Since it was mentioned the amount of Nelson hops is limited just limit Nelson and Keene (seasonal bottle release) to bottles in SD County and tap at the pub (no growler fills). Alpine can use the majority of their time just brewing Pure Hoppiness with Good becoming available in bottles as well with a seasonal bottle release of Expo and Great.

By the way, this solution really is just in the best interest of me.

You inferred it, he implied it.

Just out of curiosity, I checked BA's Top 250 Beers list. I saw 9 Alpine beers on it. I imagine you already know how many GF beers were there!

GF will be bottling everything soon in 6 packs so you won't be able to side by side anymore. No more real Nelson in bottles from Alpine. Only Nelson* will be available.

Here is the real scoop on the difference between beers brewed at Alpine and Green Flash.

Alpine Beers have always varied somewhat batch to batch. When Pat McIlhenney and Chuck Silva worked on the recipes for Green Flash, they attempted to mimic the "ideal" batch brewed at Alpine, not any particular batch result. At an all-hands team meeting we had at Alpine last November, one employee asked Pat what he thought of the Green Flash versions of Alpine beer. He replied, without hesitation, "Nelson is getting better, Hoppy Birthday is very close, and Duet is better than we ever made it."

We continue to work on all of the beers. For the first two years of making Alpine beers, there was one major obstacle. Alpine does not filter beer, but Green Flash must, because of the size of the tanks. This has caused a difference in turbidity in the beers, which we have not consistently been able to overcome. Consistently, being the key word. At times they have been nearly perfect. At other times, they have not.

Recently, with Pat's urging and guidance, we purchased and installed a very sophisticated centrifuge to filter the Alpine beer at Green Flash. This allows our brewers to dial in a specific speed to filter each beer, resulting in the targeted turbidity of that ideal batch. We have only been using the centrifuge for the past month, and are still fine-tuning the process for each beer. We are very excited and expect much more consistent turbidity going forward.

    Sincerely,
    Mike Hinkley

So what did your employee mean by "Wont be any issue soon enough."
