Keene Idea at Toronado the other day was outstanding. Heard a bunch of people say this current bottling of Nelson is also very good.

Probably the same person who marked up the brisket sandwiches to 11 bucks and got rid of the brewer's plate....

Would you prefer they had no date on it at all? The 6 month best by date allows us to know the bottled on date, which I find to be very useful information. I couldn't care less if they put a best by date of 2020, as long as it allows me to calculate the bottled on date. We were probably drinking the same beer, but you were allowing bias to cloud your judgment :stuck_out_tongue:

Stopped by last night after the Chargers game to fill growlers. Picked up GF Nelson, and GF Hoppy Bday. I have been a critic of previous GF versions of Alpine. Although the GF versions are not exact clones of the originals they are still pretty damn good. Ive been drinking real alpine since 2007. I live about 2.5 hrs away from Alpine, i would definitely buy a case of GF nelson at Bevom, instead of driving over 5 hrs round trip to buy 3 bottles of original Nelson at Alpine. Original Alpine Nelson is my #1 favorite beer in the world , and in IMO if i had never drank OG Nelson and took a sip of the new GF Nelson bottles i would say it was a pretty damn good beer. The GF Hoppy Bday bombers tastes nothing like the OG Alpine Hoppy Bday draft, but it does tastes like a pretty damn good IPA, just not hoppy Bday. If the GF Alpine bombers ever hit my area i will buy them up. They still haven't got the recipes nailed but the GF Alpine bombers are better than most of the IPAs that sit on CA shelves.

On their Facebook page including the new packaging. They are also releasing Hand Shake in 22oz bombers. Duet is also being released in 6 packs. Oh I got another growler fill of Keene, shocked to see it still on !

    Cheers…….

Just popped the new GF Nelson, I am very impressed with this batch. Its hazy orange and has an amazing nose, the flavor profile is getting really close to the original, maybe a bit more juiciness. I would buy this again.

    Cheers…...

Yup got 3 of Nelson, HB, Duet and Pure H. Buddy took one of each, so I'm looking forward to his opinion as well. We shared a Hoppy birthday when he came by, I thought it was good but never had original hoppy birthday so I can't compare that.

    Duet was 4.99
    Nelson 6.49
    Pure hoppiness 5.99
    Hoppy Birthday 4.99

There must be huge variations in bottles. The GF bottle I got was weak on the nose, weak on the flavor profile, and not juicy at all. The Duet bottle I had was nothing like the original. Everything was so muted.

Many of the Untappd check in's have said the same as I felt, and though I haven't had a bottle of Hoppy Birthday yet, the few check in's called it "pedestrian" which was a bummer to hear.

I'll wait to buy more bottles...

I have had only one bottle. I looked at Untapped and most of the reviews are very positive regarding this new batch. As I pointed out in my notes it could be more juicy but this is as close to the original its ever been which is encouraging.

    Cheers…...

Well I guess I got the shaft last time I was in there. Duet is terrible now.

I bought Nelson and one Hoppy Birthday to compare, they had original Pure Hoppiness still so I nabbed 3 of those. Staying away from Duet.

    Cheers…...

FWIW, last night I had one of the Nelson bottles that hit here in AZ. Nose was pretty darn on point, as was appearance, tons of lacing and the haze was right on like normal, palate was maybe a touch bitter/harder than normal, but it wasn't out of the ballpark or anything. Looking forward to cracking into the Hoppy Birthday tonight.

I tend to be a cheapskate drinker, so bombers aren't a common purchase, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up the occasional GF Nelson if they're on the level of last night's version.
