Had a 16oz. pour of Nelson for $6.50 at Provisions Market last night, followed by a draft Parabola and a bottle of Parabola to take home. Not a bad score.

Oh yah Tonys darts away had tulips for like 6.50 or 7 bucks as well....... Love the beer but I'd rather just go to beachwood to pay that for a pint or even better suck it up and go to alpine

and at $5.50 for a true pint on happy hour was a fair price. Also Final Gravity had it on tap Saturday for $5.50 a pint. Those are fair prices and the owners aren't dicks.

$5 for a full pint at BWSB during happy hour. A lot better deal than Brix which had it for $8+ pint. DoucheBags.

Rick the owner of brix I give the benefit of the doubt too he was one of the only craft beer bars in beach side area for a while, his price on beers is a bit steep but I'd hardly call him a douchebag, at least he is selling it in pints unlike a few establishments .... I.e Tonys darts away and ootp ... 8 a pint is still cheaper then 650 or 7 for a tulip

Your right. Rick is a nice guy. I take that back. He does get some good beers in at times. Please disregard my previous comment.

Maybe this has been said, but isn't just about any price better than the cost of gas to Alpine and back?

BTW: 38 Degrees still had a half-keg of Nelson yesterday afternoon.

That was the rationale of the OOTPP guy, and it's pretty stupid. It's like charging $500 bucks to see one of those opera performances at Regal Theatres and saying, "Hey, it's cheaper than flying to New York and paying to see it at the Met." Weird analogy, I know, but it's the best I've got right now.

It's not stupid. I'm sitting here in L.A., wanting a pint of Nelson of tap. Is another $1-2 a pint at one place versus another place going to deter me from going and drinking it? As opposed to getting in my car and driving to Alpine? I'm not defending price gouging, but, yeah, I'll pay a couple extra bucks. (A far cry from $500.) Just like I pay an unholy amount to trade. At some point, if you really want something, price as a factor comes in a distant second (or third).

BTW, the opera analogy doesn't hold up. Watching an opera on screen isn't the same as being at the Met, but drinking a Nelson, whether here or at Alpine, is the same experience. (Unless you're going to start breaking down whether Green Flash-brewed Nelson is a different thing.)

EDIT: I hadn't really read the OOTPP postings from earlier until now. I guess I'm talking more about splitting hairs over the difference between 6.50 and 8.00 a pint. OTOH, if it were my only in-town option, I'd still pay $10 for a pint of Nelson.

    Gas to Alpine/Societe R/T - $32-35
Case of bombers mixed with Duet, Nelson & Pure Hoppiness - $72-75
    3 growler fills - $45
Lunch for 2 at Alpine Brewpub - $35
    2 Societe growler fills - $40
1 pint of Societe the Pupil - $6
All day road trip to Alpine, SD (with the missus) - Priceless.
A month to two months supply of some world class ipa's - Pure Happiness
Alpine Nelson showing up all over N & S California - Bonus for everybody

So roughly a $250 day is worth it for me. But that's me.

I may be wrong about this, but for some reason I think you are one of the people that has argued with me in the past about Alpine in the past, in particular my belief that despite every single douchebag thing they do they will sitll have their fanboys.

    LOL

Alpine is taking care of their own distro. Green Flash is not involved in it except to load the trucks.

Thursday April 24 there will be a meet the brewers event at the Green Flash tasting room from 3-6. Pat and Shawn will be there. There will be a cask of Nelson with Cuties. Yes, Cuties, the little tangerines. See you there.

Cuties - that wasn't in their mail message. Do you work at GF or something? You seem to have had a lot of inside info. [grin]

I'd argue, though, that having a Nelson at Tony's Darts Away with one of those shitty vegan sausages, is not the same (read: significantly inferior) as enjoying a Nelson with beer battered fries in the cozy (read: cramped, but endearing) confines of Alpine's pub. Plus, as dcgunman pointed out, there are many other advantages to making the trek down to Alpine.

I think we just subscribe to different schools of thought on this issue. Just because you can charge more for something, doesn't necessarily mean that you should charge more for something. But, as I said, that's more a philosophical difference than anything else.

PS: Tony's is in Burbank, not on Abbot Kinney in Venice, so it's not like they have to charge exorbitant prices to cover rent. And, yes, I realize Burbank is getting much more expensive.
