I'm usually one to give Pat/Alpine the benefit of the doubt, but this whole used growler thing just seems . . . I don't know, bootleg and podunk. Which I'm sure are badges Pat would wear proudly. I guess I keep comparing him to Tony of Lagunitas, another eccentric, fairly irritating dude who at least has the good sense to surround himself with good, smart operations people. Is any of this going to keep me from making the 5-hour round trip drive every other month? No, but I wish they'd at least attempt to class things up a little.

Alpine: If I am going to do YOU a favor and give you my growler(s), the least you can do is compensate me in an amount equal to the cost of buying a new one. I know this was primarily aimed at those who have excess growlers, but still. . .

1 growler for a bottle, 2 growlers for a growler fill.

No kidding! I wonder if they are charging more for the USED growlers and calling them "upcycled" and better for the environment.

    That is just ridiculous.

Yeah, is anyone actually going to do this? What a thrifty offer.

Isn't a growler $10 new? If so, then I wouldn't consider getting a bottle worth $6 highway robbery. The growler's used and probably collecting dust in a garage. Might as well "recycle" it.

If they clean and sanitize them, is that any different than a brewery which exchanges your growler when you buy more beer? That is, if they aren't giving you a new growler every time.

PP also fills blank growlers.... Something alpine should do.

It's certainly not robbery, but I'm assuming alpine is going to resell them for $10. If so, they are likely making a few bucks from others' generosity and their poor planning. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah I can see that. I'd think they'd charge a used growler price (maybe knock 10%-20% off the new growler price) but you're probably right in assuming they're charging the full $10.

I could be mistaken about the fill part...maybe it was that they will swap your blank/other brewery for one of theirs.

I have never taken advantage of this b/c I own PP glass. Hopefully someone that has can confirm.

As soon as they start reusing kegs then I'll be forced to go to Hillcrest brewing.
