I did a blind tasting at my homebrew club meeting last week. My Homebrew Nelson, Green Flash Nelson, and Alpine Nelson. Twenty three members on hand results: GF Nelson 0 votes, Alpine Nelson 9, Homebrew Nelson 14 votes. Everyone thought the GF version was the homebrew. Alpine bottles and Green Flash growler were picked up at Alpine 2 weeks beforehand. Brief Notes: GF version more effervescent, less hazy than other 2 , more bitter , less hop aroma. I know a palate cannot measure IBUs but if original Nelson is in the 40 IBU range, GF had to have been in the 80s. The homebrew had bigger citrus character more orange and grapefruit than Alpine Nelson. Homebrew version, color and cloudiness nearly identical to Alpine Nelson . I did not hit my target efficiency so homebrew version in the 6.6% abv range. I am not bashing GF at all, but if you have never had original you probably would not be able to tell difference. I have been drinking Nelson regularly since about 2007 so an experienced Nelson drinker would be able to pick out the original. Cheers!

This doesn't surprise me at all. Have @patkorn try one of your Nelson clones.

Sure, email me a label, and i would be glad to ship a bottle as long as you post an honest review on this thread. I got plenty of packaging at work.

I brewed something very close to the brew toad a few weeks ago, and had an Alpine on hand to do a side by side,

while mine is really good, it was not as bitter nor was the aroma quite as strong,

next time, more bittering, maybe with some magnum,

    and more hops late,

    I did use Southern Cross

I am not sure how to interpret the BT recipe, there are 2x dry hops for the same number of days?
