The alpine nelson Chicago is getting is brewed at green flash. Taste very different than the source. Color and taste is really off. I stay away from the GF nelson aka Gelson. I drink from the source.

Damn. There goes my Alpine buzz. I love Nelson, so hopefully they're able to dial it back in, if what was said here is correct.

I'm wondering what might be different on a brewing level. Bigger batches, different equipment, possibly ingredient changes due to scale/GF ingredient contracts. Might be worth digging a little deeper.

I've long thought that Alpine must use some hop extracts in their beers- they keep the grain bill so minimal and the beer so beautifully clean and drinkable. Water might be the culprit, even if GF is treating it to try to match Alpine's home source.

Gelson/Nelson*. I'm headed to Chicago in a couple days.. maybe I should bring some real Nelson bottles to Local Option and we can do some comparisons  But yea, it's definitely not the same.

Still waiting for a place near me to tap some Alpine. I've seen it more and more in the city and a few 'burbs (Elgin, Downers, and one down south that I cannot recall), so hopefully the NW will see it soon enough!

Same here, where did you see it was on tap in Downers Grove?

Another Round still has it on their tap list.
