No. Pizza Port OB has the 2nd best taplist in San Diego (Toro). If you just have 1 hour and want to crush a bunch of beers on the cheap, then yes, Noodle House has you covered. Sometimes they have some fantastic stuff on, sometimes, not so much. But only Toro brings it like PP OB for a total tap list. And I still think it is pretty cool to drink such great house beers right where they actually brew it.

Nor do you have to deal with waiting for over an hour for a table, let alone getting a solo spot at the bar. If I only had an hour to crush a bunch of SD beers I wouldn't waste it at OB Noodle House.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. I ended up at Alpine, Modern Times, Coronado, Pizza Port, O'Brien's and Societe, but also hit Green Flash, Alesmith, Ballast Point and Stone. To me they were all worth the visit except for Stone.

I got to try a lot of beer I haven't seen in Wisconsin or Illinois at the major breweries (except for Stone) so each of them had their merits. All debates about "atmosphere" aside at Green Flash and Alesmith, I loved having 23 beers to choose from at Green Flash and loved trying Vietnamese Speedway at Alesmith. I was absolutely in love with Modern Times' Blazing World! Too bad they aren't canning yet.

The only places I wanted to see but didn't have time for were Hess, Tiger! Tiger! and Tornado, and I never stumbled across any Pliny. Oh well.

Also pretty amazing that everywhere I went seemed to have Sculpin on tap, almost like an afterthought. Nice "fall back" option on some places that had less appealing taps.

Great trip in a great city. Thanks again!

Thanks for the mention! We are canning starting this week, so when you come back, we will definitely have cans for you!

I always try to make it to Toronado at least once while I'm in town. One year they had a shit ton of Port leftovers from a New Year's event, including a bunch of one offs and BA stuff. I asked about Stone because I haven't been to Liberty Station yet. I'll be coming back into town in January and that location is much closer to my hotel than Escondido. My family and I love it there and I'm surprised that so many BAs, especially locals, aren't that impressed. It's always a great time, the atmosphere is really nice and the draft and bottle selection is always incredible. A little pricey but not too bad.

The Liberty Station location is pretty cool, there is a large bar area as well as several different outdoor areas. The tap list has been pretty impressive and several of the pilot beers I've had were fantastic. Comparing the experience at a brewery/restaurant to a beer bar is pretty silly IMO, unless you are just going for full-on ticker taplists.

Thanks for the info. I'll most likely check out Liberty Station this time and use my time up north going back to Churchill's and checking out some other spots that I haven't been to in that area.

Stone is pretty and as a brewpub they're also a beer bar. I can simply think of other places to go that aren't serving a bunch of average beer.

Stone Escondito was kind of a let down. The place was beautiful, but when it came to the beer and food it was very overpriced and they were out of a few things we ordered (food and drink). The waitress kept having to come back and apologize, but didn't offer to comp anything, which I was hoping. Felt like I was back at the Brickskeller in DC.
