I have seen an alternate formula for high gravity beer attenuation mentioned a few times here, anyone have a link to this formula/calculator? I can't seem to find it.

    Damn, that's a % 3 difference in abv.

When I found the Brewer's Friend alternate formula, it sent me on a three day search for the meaning of life. All of a sudden my 13.4% stout is 15.7%!? How is there not more consensus on which formula to use if the difference is so big?

I did some digging and the creator of the Brew United ABV calculator (http://www.brewunited.com/abv_calculator.php) claims to have improved on the Brewer's Friend alternate formula. He also claimed that a pro brewer verified his results with a lab test. The number is higher than the standard, but not as extreme (13.7% instead of 13.4% in my case).

After all this I realized that the calculator I've been using all along, Dave's Dreaded (http://www.davesdreaded.com/homebrew-calculator/), produces the same number as Brew United but also lest you adjust for temperature. This is the calculator I'll keep using from now on.
