who wants to sit around waiting for lagering, when you can hop the S@*T out of an ale and sell it way faster?

I'm confused. How does this relate to whether or not you or the OP personally like Pils beers or not???

You'd think so, but it seems like the "I don't like lagers" posts never cease and in 75% of cases they're only talking about stuff from BMC. Sometimes learning that a doppelbock is a lager comes as a full-on shock. If new BA's think that, I have a feeling the general population is that x100.

I love a good pils. Sometimes I just need a break from the hops - in the colder months I reach for a brown, porter or stout, and when it's warm out a Pilsner (or "Kolsch-style") is my go-to. Up there for me are Jack's Abby Sunny Ridge and SN Summerfest. I haven't had Nooner yet but it's on my list.

Pivo Pils, too- and maybe one of the following: Sunshine Pils, Neshaminy Creek Trauger Pils, Brooklyn Pilsner, North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner. We'll see how the freshness dates are, as well as what kind of mood I'm in. You shall definitely be pinged as requested, as well as a few others that might be interested.

I want to like pilsners, I really do. I just haven't had one that stood out. They're definitely drinkable and not bad by any means. I just wouldn't seek one out, going by my past experiences. I've had some of the "best" ones too like Prima and Pivo, just not my thing I suppose. But I wish I did like them.

Ping me as well if you don't mind...and out of the list in your next post, I'd pick Sunshine Pils to add to the mix.

    No problem.

Sunshine Pils is my favorite, so that might be very interesting going up against some other heavy hitters. Last year I liked it best against Prima and Saranac Wild Pils.

Michael, do you think that Michael Jackson, who was a Brit of a number of decades ago, would have an 'issue' with American Adjunct Lagers?

I would think that he did not have the 'drama' of only having a homogenized beer style like AAL being something which bothered him. He could go to his local and drink Bitter Ales, Milds, etc. In other words he had some beer of variety which had some flavor going for them. He likely also appreciated the flavors of beer styles like a Bohemian Pilsner plus the other varieties of Czechoslovakia (and later the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic).

A beer drinker in the US in the 70s would likely have two choices: AAL beers and imports which were not extremely different from AAL beers (e.g., Heineken. Lowenbrau, etc.)

    Cheers!

I'm toasting too with Pils from: The Czech Republic (Pilsner Urquell), Germany (Weihenstephaner Pilsner) and the US (Schell's Pils). All different and delicious! :sunglasses:

Technical point that no one will care about:grinning:

Not all hop extracts are light stable. Tetralone is the only one that is completely, with Isolone being pretty close. But they are small amount of the extracts available.

I'm sure he was well aware of the quantity of industrial pale lagers that were consumed the world over; he even drank quite a few of them himself, just by going on the entries in the pocket guides. It does seem like a statement to start with the Czech beers in his books- exactly what that statement is can certainly be left to interpretation .
