    Hey all -
Completely striking out trying to get Vanilla. But I see others getting it in trades. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I'm a noob? Is it because I've limited it to IP? I figured most of the Vanilla would be in Chicago.

At various times I've offered combinations of Better Half, King Henry, Dark Lord, Baller Stout, Bramble Rye and others and only had one tiny nibble.

    Any thoughts?

I would say it's two fold:

    A) The beer is retired so those who have it are reluctant to let it go
    B) In person trade, extremely limited to your trading audience

You've offered up some pretty good beers to be able to land this, expand this to further than IP and I'd say you've got it. Best of luck landing Vanilla, it's damn good.

As a trader that only does in person trades, the main issue was hinted at but not mentioned directly in the last post. Anyone in Chicago that still has Vanilla very like has everything you are offering. Classic Venn Diagram problem.

You need something interesting from another region to get more locals to be interested in an IP trade. Even then, many traders prefer the Christmas morning effect of receiving a box in the mail. I prefer not paying one of the shipping companies, but I know I am in the minority. Good luck.

Many BAs in Chicago will gladly help you with your first trade as far as packing etc. go. I waited for the longest time before first shipped trade myself.

Maybe you just have not bumped your trading thread enough times.

Seems like that rule has gone out the window for most traders.

Actually I agree with what has been said already.
IP trade offering good but locally available items really limits who can actually complete the trade.

Regardless that it is "retired" and you're looking for an IP trade, I would venture to say most people don't trade this beer because it tastes phenomenal. I would give up a BCBS Rare before a Vanilla.

So... would you give me a Rare for V? ;-)

Thanks for the tips, all. The Venn Diagram especially.

Honestly, it's been mostly my own laziness/not trusting myself to get a shipment out that has kept me at only IP trades. Will probably have to open this up.

Sign up for a (free) shipping account (I prefer FedEx) and you're set. Then all you do is print your own label and send it out. I recommend having them pick it up... so I don't have to deal with any of "those" questions when I drop it off. In over 80 trades completed, I have yet to drop off a box at the local store.

The value of BCBVS is pretty high due to the fact that GI said they won't be making it again. You aren't the only one here trying to trade for it.

I recently traded my last one. The trade was a BCBVS, BCBCS, and 09-11 BCBS for a Churchill's Finest. We expanded beyond that later, but that was the meat of the trade.

You are offering solid beers. Open it up to shipping and you will find someone.
