Simple execution and very good malts, it's a real treat for German beer lovers.

There are a few pockets with good lagers and there are a few scattered central-European inspired breweries throughout the country. However on the whole I think we're lacking. For the most part I feel the same about Belgian-style beers, too. There are scattered great examples, but most are just not up to par.

How many of the beers you've seen so far are available to you, if any?

I would disagree with the off flavors comment, but you're right that most of these lagers are lacking in malt profile. I am not a big lager drinker and honestly am happy with a lot of my locals offerings. The local lagers are rarely world class but they are usually enjoyable,

Sierra Nevada Summerfest - good but seasonal
Brooklyn Pilsner - solid but not special
Samuel Adams Boston Lager - an oldie but goodie
Firestone Walker Pivo Pils - not traditional, but tasty if you like hoppy lagers
Victory Prima Pils - another excellent hoppy lager

Maybe because it's so warm here most of the time and because central Texas has a strong German and Czech immigrant history but we have some really good pilsners made locally. Real Ale Hans Pils, Live Oak Pilz, and Austin Beerworks Pearls Snap to name a few.

The name is lost on me, it was on tap when I was at the brewery. I had one of each but I'm at a complete loss, I don't think it's canned, could be a seasonal special perhaps.

We have almost no American craft in Ontario, so we all drive over the border and find what we can in NY or Michigan. We do have Anchor Steam and Liberty ale, Boston Lager and Sam Adams seasonals, Brooklyn lager and the occasional seasonal, Sofie, Goose Island IPA, and recently Sierra Nevada PA. Stone is coming any day now.

Not too many lagers in the small list of brews.

I can't enough enough of Sierra Nevada Nooner Pilsner lately. It's delicious.

One more vote for the following:
Firestone Walker Pivo Pils - Maybe the best American pilsner I've had. Pretty much perfect for the style.
Oskar Blues' Mama's Little Yella Pils
    Nooner

Great Lakes' Dortmunder Gold is a damn good take on the Dortmund Lager style.

Yeah, that pilsner was pretty much perfect, but it never seemed to be "around" like dortmunder or some of their other offerings. I bought it when i saw it though.

Bummed they took away that Conway's Irish Red too.

Yup, there are indeed some tasty German style beers being brewed in Texas. I also enjoy Shiner Bohemian Black Lager i addition to the beers you listed.

    Cheers!

Do yall still have Max's Allegheny Tavern in the North Side? That place was legit, back in the day.
