I'm trying to make an American red ale. I'm wondering if that's just an amber beer. I'm hoping to create a recipe that is a hybrid between an Irish red and an American amber beer. I don't want it to be a brown, or anything too dark. I'm going for a lighter session beer.

    10.50 OG
    11# American 2 row
I'll need some crystal and RB 1-2# total?

I'm also wondering what kinds of yeast and hops to use.
EKG would work well as a 60 and maybe a 10 min addition
I could also do an American version with Cascade or something.

I've got 1084 Irish ale yeast and I've got US05. Maybe a split batch is in order

I'd love to hear some feedback.

IMO, American Red and American Amber mean the same thing, at least the way people usually use the terms. And I think of American Amber as being 'analogous' to Irish Red (or vice versa), in the same sense that American IPA and English IPA are 'analogous.' Sorry, couldn't come up with a better word.
