Just saw today that American Sour Beer is available for preorder on Amazon. I don't know him personally but Old Sock has helped me and many others on BA. I'm really looking forward to this one.

I will likely be buying this one, if for no other reason than the amount OldSock has helped myself and others out on here. However, I am thinking that this book will be a great point of reference and extremely informative.

Really really looking forward to this. Glad it's being out out in 2014, rather than 2015 as originally planned.

@OldSock has been of great help to me in the past and he has helped many other hombrewers (BAs) out as well.

I look forward to reading this book.

    Cheers to Michael Tonsmiere!

So glad to see this! Mike has been a huge help for me in brewing, for wilds and tamed beers alike. This will be the first beer book I buy in a long time.

Glab BP is publishing this one. He is definitely one that has helped pushed the boundaries. Already have my pre-ordered and looking forward to it! OldSock, hope the final push towards publication is going well!

Thanks everybody! Still feels weird considering I'm reviewing the edits to Chapters 9 and 10 (barrels/wood and fruit/vegetables) tonight... After three years I'll be the one who's most excited to see it in everyone's hands!

I've added it to my wish list, and look forward to reading it. Nice to see it is already listed as "#1 Best Seller in Beer" on Amazon. Congrats OldSock!

Charlie Papazian showed up randomly at my homebrew club meeting Monday night. He accepted the ribbing I handed him about my sales currently being ahead of his Complete Joy of Homebrewing… I’m sure that order won’t too long though, so it was good timing! Apparently he’s not much of a sour-head, but has brewed some over the years (his favorite was unintentional, a keg of porter that he forgot about for four years).

I'll be buying. But, Old Sock, feel free to take your time with the edits. I still need to read the Water book.

Would it spoil it enough to say it won't be released until more like May/June?

I’ve been researching and writing it for the last three years. I was able to get lots of specific process details from New Belgium, Lost Abbey, Russian River, Jolly Pumpkin, Allagash, Cambridge, Cascade, Ithaca, and the Bruery. I’ve also included smaller quotes and suggestions on specific topics from another dozen or so brewers who do something unique (places like Alpine, Upright, Hill Farmstead, Upland, Freetail, Al’s of Hampden, etc.). Not to mention a few terrific homebrewers!

My goal was to skip over most of the personalities, stories, and lore, and get down to the hard facts, details of production (e.g., times, temperatures, pitching rates, amounts) etc. the sort of stuff that hopefully you’ll get something out of whether you’re brewing your first batch of sour beer at home or considering stepping up from barrels to foeders at a craft brewery.

It’s gone through a rigorous editing process between the publisher, technical editors (Jennifer from Russian River, and Yvan from De la Senne), and now the capable hands of a terrific copyeditor. I'm really looking forward to having everything wrapped up in the next week!

    Spoiler:
The Brettanomyces did it with beta-glucosidase in the barrel.

OldSock, will this book be available on the AHA site as well? I don't see it there yet, but I'd rather buy from there if possible.

Forget it, I'm not buying it now. Way to ruin the ending.

The publisher said the pre-sale would start about two weeks before release (so look for it around May 15th). Fine by me, I assume they (and in turn I) get a bigger cut!
