So my sister is really into sours so I'm trying to help her find some local ones.
Right now about all she can find is Rodenbach and Duchesse, the occasional overpriced 3F.

I told her to keep an eye open for Rivertown stuff, and Jackie O's, but I don't even know if Jackie O's does anything besides brewery releases. Doesn't Fatheads ever make any sour beers? Hoppin Frog is making a gose I know about, Thirsty Dog isn't making sours AFAIK though.

I mean I thought I had it bad here in FL, but at least I can get Bruery and Funky Buddha berliners, hell just got Love Child recently and we even get Rivertown way down here. Aren't there any local OH breweries making sours besides Jackie O's ?

Looks like Ohio gets stuff from The Bruery, so there should be plenty of sours for her to choose from. Goose Island has a whole line of sours that she can probably find.

The thing with sours is that it's a new fad in the US. A good lacto sour takes 2-3 years to mature, so all the new breweries hopping on the bandwagon won't have a ready product for quite a while. There are a lot of breweries here in WI working on sours, but yeah they are only a work in progress. By 2016, if the craft beer market continues to grow, I'm willing to bet that shelves will be covered with sour beers all year round.

I would recommend Jolly Pumpkin beers. If I'm not mistaken, all of their beers have at least a little sour to them. They do a lot of open fermentation and use the wild yeast strains...

Jolly Pumpkin makes some great sour beers. It is relatively easy to find pretty much anywhere in my experience. La Roja and Bam Bière are exceptional.

I second the GI/Jolly Pumpkin/Bruery suggestions. New Holland has a sour called Incorrigible that is available here, Anderson Valley's The Kimmie, The Yink, and the Holy Gose is damn tasty. There are some here, you just have to look.

i can still find boxes of GI Lolita here in chicago, not doubt the same in OH. I'd recommend that for sure. and of course, duchesse, kasteel rouge. just hope she doesn't get sticker shock:slight_smile: sours aren't cheap.

A few like you mentioned...Rivertown and Jackie O's though all of Jackie O's sours are brewery only releases. Thirsty Dog and Fat Heads have done some limited draft only sours at their breweries. Outside of that and the other suggestions already made in this thread it's slim pickings.

Just send her a box from FL!

Jackie Os does, but you have to go to their bottle releases to get them. Canton Brewing Company opening this December has plans to make sours, but it will be awhile before any are released.

Have not had any beer by Mikkeller myself, but I always see a bunch of their offerings under the sours shelves at Lizardville.
