I'll be staying in Amsterdam from Oct 3rd to the 14th with the gf. I looked around the forums, but couldn't find any recent posts regarding Amsterdam in particular. Are there any upcoming events or locations you would recommend? I am looking for bars/breweries to sit down and enjoy a few, but also some stores to bring home regional specialities would be great. I'm primarily interested in sours, Belgians, and stouts/porters. I've never had Westy 12 or any Cantillion, so those are high up on the list, but I'm open to pretty much anything.

Some locations I've found, but have to research further:

    Gollem's Proeflokaal Overtoom
    Beer Temple
    In De Wildeman
    Bierkoning
Wijnwinkel Slijterij Ton Overmars - retailer?

Thanks in advance to the locals for their help!

p.s - Non-beer ideas are also welcome, we don't have much planned at the moment!

Brewery Het'Ij - microbrewery in an old windmill, get the tasting tray if you go, 5 sample beers for about 8 euros.

Het Elfde Gebod on Zeedijk - great selection of beers including some from Het'Ij.

Cafe Belgique on Gravenstraat - decent selection of beers in a tiny bar.

This right here, do the tour too at Het"Ij, I would also do the Heineken tour too. Its a really great tour even if not your favorite beer.

Het Elfde Gebod is awesome, great beers and atmosphere.

Non beer related but if you have a free day take an early morning trip to Appledorn and go to the Apenhuel. You will need the entire day there. Just got to make sure they haven't closed down for the winter season.

    These are my suggestions:

    Butcher's Tears - brewery taproom
    Troost - brewpub
Biertuin - pub with beer from new local breweries
    Oedipus - if they're open

Ton Overmars is a great shop - it's my local offie. I think he still has some Westvleteren 12 for 9.99 euros.

This has to be the oddest. It's a pub distillery in a park. Lovely spot.

The Netherlands has improved much in the last five years. Though St. Bernardus Abt remains my beer of choice.

Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions! Brewery Het'Ij, Het Elfde Gebod, and Cafe Belgique are on the itinerary now! Are there any events or special nights that might be fun to go to? I read that we might be arriving towards the end of Dutch Beer Week or something like that?

In de Wildman is only a couple of blocks from Cafe Belgique and well worth the trip.
