    Thought this was rather amusing.

I haven't had a Theakstons beer in many a year but thought this was a nice little dig at current craft beer trends...

23 years ago on my 18th my dad took me out to drink ale legally for the first time
I asked if we were going to have Theakstons & my dad replied
'It's been about five years since it's been worth drinking,
I hear Paul Theakston is going to bring the beer back to it's former glory with his own outfit'

    & we are still waiting

I have to contradict you, Old Peculier from the wood is still a sublime pint.

Not being facetious but I'll take it you mean cask or do they actually still have a cooper? Lived within a few doors of a TJ Bernard's house for years and I would always take the No 3 over OP. In the unlikely event of finding OP on cask locally in their former masters' heartland nowadays, I'll give it a go.

I've had some stand up pints of Old Peculier
(and some terrible due to it's reputation putting it in the hands/pumps of the uncaring/inexperienced)
but it carries with it the words of so many British Ale legendary brews
'Not as good as it used to be'

In a case of 'You gotta be shitting me' Theakston regains its independence from the clutches of Scottish and Newcastle in 2004 and promptly fucks up Old Peculier.

Not at all. I'd long ignored Theakston's ordinary bitter but a local pub put it on as a regular and knowing the landlord knew his job I tried some. It's not a beer that blows you away with the first mouthful but after a few swigs there are layers and layers of subtle flavours dancing on the palate and it just gets better down the glass. It's the beer I always seek out at this pub whenever I visit.
