On another message board, somebody from the UK asked me for suggestions as far as US beers. What US beers are available in the UK?
EDIT: I do not live in the UK. They do. They have not had any of the US craft beer.

If you are "an American in the UK", wouldn't you know better than I would?

I am not in the UK. The person asked me for an American craft beer suggestion. They live in the UK. I don't want to suggest beers that they wouldn't have a reasonable chance of getting. For instance, someone from the UK may love their local pubs brown, but seeing as I couldn't get it here, it would not be a practical suggestion. A better suggestion maybe Sam Smith Nut Brown.

Oh, I see. Your title is a little misleading...

The problem I see is that some brewers that send beer to other countries, don't list it under their distribution section (granted they have one). Hoppin' Frog for example I think sends beer to Europe (or out of country at least) but I don't think they note that on their site. It may just boil down to what's available when you're there...

to be honest, I wouldn't worry about it. There's a lot of stuff that's available sporadically or available in small quantities. Just suggest away and they'll filter out what isn't available to them themselves. For instance, Sam Smith's would be pretty much useless to me because I never see it around!

I've never seen Hoppin Frog anywhere here.
Sam Smiths would be useless as it isn't a US craft beer surely...?
Just tell them anything from Sierra Nevada, Anchor, Goose Island, and to a lesser extent Odell and Victory. Those are the main ones I see here.

Brooklyn Lager is pretty easy to get a hold of so is Blue Moon (though I haven't bothered trying that)
oh and Samuel Adams Boston lager.

Hoppin Frog is available at the Cask

If they are after American craft then they will only find a large range in a handful of bars, namely the Cask and Craft in London

Check out Beers of Europe for a good idea of available breweries

I concur with what others on the thread have already shared. There's also a shed load available at the BrewDog bars either to drink there or take away trying to make sense of what they actually have available is like trying to figure out the Greek economy.

If your after American Craft Beer then the Voodoo Cafe in Darlington, North East England carry a huge stock, Sierra Nevada, Odell, Anchor, Flying Dog, Maui Brewing Company, Victory, Brooklyn, Samuel Adams and Stone Brewing Company beers are always in stock plus loads of one off cases of strange brews from America/South America and the rest of the world.

Thanks for that les fry. Even though the supermarkets here seem to be sqeezing out decent American craft there seems to be a growing decent range among small independent outlets.

I am having a real tough time finding anything good from the states that I haven't had before and with my local Tesco dropping Anchor Pale Ale for Blue Moon, my local ASDA dropping SN Pale Ale for Blue Moon and my local Waitrose stopping selling SN torpedo I'm finding it tough to get good U.S. beers I have already drunk as well :slight_frown:

I may well have to start ordering ale online.

Apparently a shop relatively near (near for a car not on foot hehe) me was due to sell Maui beers in the future (well that was the word as of Jan '12) so I may go on an epic journey to find some.

I've managed to find a few different Maui beers including most recently a can of Big Swell IPA. Last year I got a few from Beers of Europe including a Coconut Porter. They might still have some.

Never too keen to order beer as our reception only accepts Royal Mail deliveries/the service you used, so I don't want to have to end up having to go to the cardiff depot (usually in newport) because i dont have a car.

Was it me that told you that (under my old name of Cardiff)?
Anyway, I am working on getting them in to a shop aroud here, I will also let you know if I ever see them on sale nearby, the most likely bet is Discount supermarket on Whitchurch road.

Yes I do believe it was! And the shop was The Bottle Shop on Pen-y-Lan road I believe. Any news on what beer they've got in? I check Discount Supermarket once a week/fortnight usually - last time they had just stared stocking Bear Republic.

All good but all widely available.

Well they were though more and more Blue moon is replacing them in the line ups.

Perhaps if they were to rotate the actual ales of these brands in the supermarkets.

Yeah, that would be better for you lot. But seriously, having had so many US brews and so few quality brews from the UK, if I lived over your way, I'd be drinking Cask ales like crazy and wouldn't miss US brews for a long long time.
