It seems like we see a lot of posts that generally fall in these categories: Seattle, Portland, Alaska, and sometimes southern Oregon. Since we don't have sub forums I was wondering what you all think about tagging post titles like so: [PDX] Fantasia Release...Wooo! [VAN] By the Bottle taplist for 2/12 [SEA] Red Hook bottles are in stock now [ANC] Midnight Sun release schedule for 2012 [EUG] Ninkasi Total Domination in 44oz cans Whether it's airport codes or state (WA) or something indicating the area, I think it would be of great help for scanning. I know we don't have a crazy amount of posts to filter through but it would keep things organized. Thoughts?
I basically think this is a solid idea. Now, getting everyone to play along..... As an aviation geek, I am down with using one's local airport code as an identifier (from your guy near BLI).
I generally already try to do this w/ geography-specific threads. But I'm not so sure about the airport codes, I'd be more inclined to do something like: [Portland] Fantasia Release...Wooo! Portland: Fantasia Release...Wooo! We all know SEA and PDX, but the more obscure ones would require some effort. Plus there are some threads that won't have an airport code. What would you use for Pacific City (Pelican)? Poulsbo (Sound Brewery)? Bend (Deschutes)? I think just typing the name of the place allows more flexibility. I would have had to look up BLI if I didn't already know where beertunes is. But maybe if everyone got in the habit it would work.
Cool. I'm down for whatever. Doesn't really need to be consistent. It was just a fast and loose suggestion to basically add some sort of regional keywords to post titles for quicker scanning.
There's like 10 guys that post regularly in the NW forum. (I don't include myself in that group). The last thread on the first page goes all the way back to last Thursday. Is sorting through all the posts really an issue? Love the avatar, BTW, OP. My Double Mtn growler always gets compliments when I take it in for a fill at my local bottle shop.
If it were consistently applied it would be useful, especially considering that the search box at the top of the page allows you to restrict searches to "thread title only." If everyone started using the city name then you could easily search for "Portland" and find all the PDX-specific posts while filtering out any threads that just contain passing references to the city.
As a technical writer I've found that in lists (like the list of thread titles generated on a forums page), information organized from broadest to narrowest helps people quickly weed out what they're not interested in - just like different-level headings in a document. Something like this: WA: Seattle: Two Beers: Evolutionary IPA OR: Portland: Hair of the Dog: Adam from the Wood WA: Bellingham: best pubs and bars AK: Anchorage: Anchorage Brewing: Bitter Monk OR: Pacific City: Pelican Brewing: Mother of All Storms release etc.
Nice idea, but I don't think it is that hard to scan through the first sentence of a post, realize it doesn't apply to you, and move on. I also agree that it would be difficult to get everyone to do this.
Now this NUTS !!!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/320868085827?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Now this NUTS !!!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/320868085827?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Yes, I have to agree this is NUTS!
If you build it, they will come. Just start doing it yourself, and one of two things will happen. A: people will start doing it too; 2: no one will do it and this will be forgotten; or C: you and a handful of people will do it while the rest of us lazy bastards may think about it and do it occasionally if we remember or the meme is strong enough.
