Homebrewing's great and all, but if one is in it to save money, they're barking up the wrong tree. Sure, it LOOKS like making beer costs less on paper if you just look at ingredients, but once you factor in the equipment and the time that it takes, you're looking at a break even venture, at best.

Its depends on what you are brewing. If its something like Budweiser, you certainly cannot realize the efficiency of scale than InBev does. But for an expensive style, like a Belgian Quad, or Russian Imperial Stout, you will save money, beyond a doubt. The equipment required to produce such a beer might cost at much as $250, probably less, though I bought mine for much less, years ago. After brewing two five-gallon batches of an expensive style, you are far ahead, financially. As for the time it takes, many of us view it as cheap entertainment, that produces fine beer to be enjoyed later.

i think absent a pressurized purge with a device that covers the entire can mouth and releases pressure via a valve, just wanding in CO2 under pressure into an open-mouthed can (as breweries filling crawlers also do) tends to just roil up the natural air in the can and certainly doesn't remove all O2. Sure, CO2 is heavier than air, but under even 2-3 PSI of pressure that doesn't matter because it's moving too fast to settle to the bottom and push air out.

So a counter pressure bottle fill with a simple MoreBeer (or equivalent) filler is going to do a better job of removing O2 than this thing, it seems to me.

    $175?

Think I will stick with flip-top bottles.
