Barleywine style ale brewed with Galaxy hops. Aged 11 months in cognac barrels. 17.3% and 60IBU. Will debut at Barleywine Fest at Anchorage Brewing in January. Limited distro after that, as only 150 cases produced.

This is awesome on all levels: Anchorage does no wrong, cognac-aged beers rock, barrel-aged barleywines rock, Galaxy hops are tasty, and that label is sweet. I must have it.

We used to get all of their releases but I haven't seen any of their beers around here for a while. I haven't done any shipped trades in over two years. I might have to break the hiatus if I can't find this one.

Jesus, I hope I can land a bottle of this, then the challenge will be finishing it in one sitting

We should see some of that in draft too, in few spots around Anchorage. Bottles are rumored to be around $30 apiece.

They had a keg of this at The Festival in Portland, Maine this summer. This is an incredible beer. So glad I got to try it.

If it's sweet, it's probably less the IBUs and more the cognac.

If only he would just brew a ton of this stuff and much less Anadromous. Can't see this seeing much distro at 150 cases. Wonder how hard cognac barrels are to come by.

My thoughts as well, that's too low for something that high in abv and that cognac barrel will only add to the sweetness...

France is a long fucking ways away from AK; pretty sure that's the exact reason for the 150 cases produced, limited barrels...granted homeboy did get himself some Foudres from Europe, so who knows.

Hey did you hear that Max's will definitely get this? That would be awesome, though Alaskan doesn't distribute to maryland.

I had the pleasure of having Bitter Monk, White-out, and Galaxy. If they don't distribute to MD, then this is news to me. If that case, then it's Philly time.

    Also... ISO.

Also, Nebraska Brewing released a cognac barrel-aged version of their RIS, Black Betty, last year called Sexy Betty. Never got to try it, but it was also a $30-ish bottle. This year, Sexy Betty is aged in brandy barrels.

I really need to try this beer. I've yet to have a brew I didn't LOVE from Anchorage--Love Buzz, Darkest Hour, Bitter Monk, Whiteout Wit, Tide & Its Takers, Galaxy--you name it, it's probably good. Masters of the barrel in my humble opinion.

The only Nebraska beer I've ever seen for $12 was a bottle of Hop God Reserve Series in the 50% off section. Everything I see around KC is in the $20-30 range

    gillagorilla Meyvn (1,300) Feb 27, 2013 Maryland

Do you think a keg will make it there? Personally, I have never seen Anchorage on tap at Max's. I mean the only bottle of theirs I've seen is Galaxy, and perhaps Bitter Monk, but not at Max's.

If they're only bottling 150 cases, I'm pretty sure this isn't going to make it to Marylane, or anywhere outside of Alaska and maybe the Pacific-Northwest, for that matter.

You had those 3 at Max's? We might get some bottles, but that is about it. They aren't listed on Seekabrew, but they are a bit touchy when it comes to MD. I mean we just got the Anchorage version of It's Alive. Bottles are more likely than a keg, though (IMO).
  38. Shroud0fdoom

    Shroud0fdoom Poo-Bah (1,888) Oct 31, 2013 Maryland

I only got the bottles. I remember going to my store and asking for the second release of Bitter Monk. That didn't happen. I don't think we'll ever get kegs. So it might be true that MD has a new Restriction against Anchorage. Md and their ridiculous Alcohol laws. Side note, you going to Max's for Black Friday?
