I had a pour of this last night. Super sweet and a few ounces was more than enough. Good stuff though.

I know Luekens in Dunedin had one case last year. I'm hopefully we'll see more of this in FL this time around since apparently a lot more was made.

Odd bump, but just ran into a place I dont typically hit and they had a bottle or two on the shelves. Never had it before, but recognized the label.
I guess it's been on the shelves most of the year. Sitting up on the warm shelves. Listed at $36 or $37. Worth it?
I've dumped a lot of money on some Eclipse, Helldorado, and others lately. I hesitated. Maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into it?

I dont know if this will influence your decision, but it seems that others have no issue paying the price. I frequent a store about 10 minutes from my house that gets in nice craft brews. I saw Deal with the Devil in there the night it was delivered and thought that for $34 that it would sit for another day while I decided if I wanted to splurge for it or not. Nope. I went in the next day and all of the bottles were cleared out.

Thanks for the feedback. Might have to just do it. Thankfully my wife doesn't check the credit card account too much and won't give me too much trouble. It helps deflect the running list of Amazon and Target purchases I constantly see I guess!

I thought it was EXTREMELY sweet. Tasty, but cloyingly sweet. If you don't like beer they are sweet, I'd steer clear.

$34 a bottle? Buy some great scotch for $80 for 15 servings, IMO. This stuff is getting ridiculous.

A trading buddy of mine said he got one for $40. My cheap self passed on this at WF for $26 and then spent $27.99 on a Sucaba 4 weeks ago because I was excited/ surprised to see it at one of my local shops. Shoulda got it I guess.

Got one for roughly the same price in MD about a year ago. I say go for it. Clearly you want to try it, and it's ~$36. It's pricey for a beer, but not a fortune in the grand scheme of things. If you don't think it's worth it, don't get it again. But this is the type of beer that's great for sharing (even with your wife - mine is a craft beer fan but not necessarily a beer snob and she still thought it was a tasty brew) and I think you'll enjoy it. For me, it wasn't mind-blowing, but the $35 allowed me to try it, enjoy it, and know that I probably won't spend that much on it again. I say enjoy!

I spent 25$ for mine. It's been sitting around here in bulk for a few months now. I guess it's much more rare and expensive in the lower 48. Alaskan beers are the only ones I get the cheapest relative deals on here, not surprisingly. While I think it's a phenomenal barleywine, I don't think any beer is worth more than about 25$. Yeah, there are some great beers, but come on. Arctic Devil sells for like half the price and is of comparable quality.

Also, I think it's weird that they didn't print the ABV on the bottles, while every other Anchorage beer does specify ABV.

Side note JandJ, if you don't mind me asking - where did you find Helldorado?

Have you had Darkest Hour? If so, what did you think? I've got a bottle downstairs to be cracked sometime this winter and the reviews seem to be somewhat all over the map.

Haha... I have tried Darkest Hour, although the one I tried was batch #1, which was from Mar/2013 (I have the bottle right here), "aged in French Oak Pinot Noir and Rye Whiskey Brrels," and fermented with both Belgian yeast and wine yeast. Fittingly, it was labeled a "Belgian Style Imperial Stout." You can find my review of that version on this site, where I gushed over how it's one of the most awesome imperial stouts I've ever had.

However, I'm assuming you refer to the more recent Darkest Hour? I haven't tried it yet because I've been pouting about the fact that they changed it up and it isn't "Belgian" anymore (love Belgian Imp. Stout)... though I easily could (and probably should) pick up the current one and try it. I suspect that it's very good as well. Maybe I'll let you know if I do.

Yeah I've got the Batch #2 Dec/2014 version. Curious to know what you think if you try it before I do since you'll have had both batches.

If you check out the bottle it's actually a begien stout lol. Batch 2 is better than the first, if fact if I didn't just crack this grey Monday I'd crack it now

I purchased two back when they hit in Florida. Drank one right away, opened the other a month ago. I love this beer and I would purchase it if I ever saw it, but next time id let it settled for 6-8 months. Mind boggling you found it recently.
