That pretty much confirms that Andechs uses the day/year (dddy) variant of the Julian dating system. Just my luck the bottle I found has a code that starts and ends with 3 and could be interpreted multiple (4) ways!

either way, by it, even if it is a year old, dopplebocks hold up well as they age!

L 1693 on my bottles of the Doppelbock. Following one theory that puts bottling on June 18, 2013. Since this beer just hit our area, I think 8 month-old beer is just a bit beyond prime. Nevertheless, it tasted pretty good; nice and bready, if not a bit overly dry in the finish. Still recommend it for Doppel fans.

Hey @einhorn, doesn't your company handle Andechs? Any insight on the dating code?

I've been drinking the 3013s, and they are still pretty great! Go get some, man!

I grabbed the last one I saw at Whole Foods Chelsea (most convenient one to reach from my job) last night.
May drop in again at the end of the week to see if they put any more out. If it's there I might buy 1 or 2 more!

Even though this was settled here last week, I figured it wouldn't hurt to pass along the reply I got from Andechs (actually their importer) to my query regarding their dating code...
Looking forward to drinking that bottle this weekend!

Shared the Andechs with a friend while bottling our home-brewed Wit Sunday. Excellent! Tasty, with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Well balanced, not too sweet or heavy-bodied. I'll be on the lookout for more!
