I'll be visitiing NYC (staying in Midtown) next week (from AZ), and was excited to see that Andechs is distributed to some places on the East coast. I've had it in Germany and thought the dobblebock was one of the best beers I've ever tasted. I definitely want to bring some back with me...any tips on bottle shops in Manhattan that carry Andechs?
Prospect Heights Beer Works in Brooklyn is the only place in NYC where I've noticed Andechs - but I think those beers have been sitting there for a while. I don't recall seeing any at Whole Foods. Definitely call ahead to any shop.
They had the doppelbock at Beer Culture on 45th fairly regularly until I noticed they were out when I was in their last on Monday. They still had the Hefeweizen, though, I think. I'd check there.
Definitely Whole Foods Bowery. They should have plenty. Check out New Beer Distributors around the corner from there also, just in case.
You could also enjoy the beers on draught at Zum Schneider (along with quite a few other nice ones), if you have a few hours handy: http://www.zumschneider.com/beers.htm
You might even be able to find some on tap at a bar if that interests you. At the moment, Ginger Man has the Dunkles Weissbier.
