cuvee renee is an awesome go to sour. It got me into the style(s) and I still go back to it from time to time. La Folie is good, but a bit pricey for what you get. If you can find Kick this year (i know a few bottle shops in my area that will put out bottles of it in a month or so) that's a good one. Ichtegem's Grand Cru is pretty widely available and decent...

    I'd highly recommend:
    1. Cuvee de Rene
    2. Liefman's Goudenband

    Cantillon. Peak early.

but in all seriousness, Cascade Kriek is nice, and available. Gueuze Marriage Parfait is nice, and very economical considering most bottles on the market are pre-aged (and it's interesting to try vintages of the sour variety). Lost Abbey Carnivale is one of their more accessible sours (in my searching experience). Of course, Jolly Pumpkin as well.

But forreal, Cantillon is the true testament to sour greatness. Go domestic, and when you have the chance to splurge on harder to find stuff (eg Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen) you'll know your preferences within sours and be able to enjoy them even more! IMO, no point in seeking out the rare stuff when you have plenty of great beers to enjoy and explore that are more readily available. Keep the Belgians in site, but don't spend your life pursuing. My .02.

I just had SA Stony Brook Red last night and was very surprised (because I haven't had anything from Sam Adams that I REALLY enjoyed) and impressed. Will be buying a few more bottles to keep around.

Rodenbach Grand Cru and Jacobins Rouge are both FANTASTIC and aren't too bad price wise. I'll throw in Cuvee Brut and Goudenband from Liefmans.

It's been said above, but I wanted to add my vote for Rodenbach Grand Cru...$10 a 750 generallly and sublime, especially when paired with something like baked goat cheese marinara. For my money, it kicks the pants off of Duchesse. Also agree with the GI 'Three Sisters', but at around $18 for a 22oz, I can't afford that more than once in a blue moon.

I'm a total IPA freak, but after trying my first sour i'm in love. Taste is amazing, and I know there are better sours from the Lindemans I've had.

Is this one worth $37.99 to try? Ended up picking up a 2007 Lindemans Gueze Cuvee Rene as I was shopping around in the same store. Was only $10 or so for that.

Definitely check out beers from Cantillon, they're pretty darn good.
