Another Berlin trip

    Soooo, I just remembered I'd not reported on Berlin for a while, I'm not going to write too much about it cos it was a similar experience to my previous trip reports, beer, football, wurst and top notch echte Berliner kneipen. So, i'll just leave a few pictures of some of the best boozers I encountered during my research.

    Special praise must go to Foersters Feine Bier in Steglitz, if you're ever in the area please visit this place, run by top people and with an amazing selection of german beer from all over the country from breweries old and new, can't recommend it enough. Try and visit some of the kneipen as well before they all slowly disappear.

    a bit of both really, i've been going to berlin for years, visited a few really good boozers in berlin in my younger years that sadly closed which got me more interested in the history of berliner kneipen, i get talking to people and ask about favourite pubs, i like just picking an area and having a good walk around and stumbling across hidden gems, there are a couple of really good books on the subject by clements fussers.

    i have a google map for berlin with around 300 pubs plotted on it, i've only visited about 150 so far.

    If the German Subforum had its own subforum dedicated to naught but @gavinbrooksbank Berlin Trip reports I would be a happy man.

    ISO: Berlin Kneipen serving Spezial Rauchbier vom Fass.
    Also ISO: anywhere within a 50 Mile Radius of me serving same.

    You're very kind. Seriously, next time you go to berlin go to Foersters, they have a few regular beers on such as Schoenrammer Helles and Fiege Pils but they also get guest beers as and when they can get them, I've known them have a wooden cask of Uerige alt on the bar and many others, their German "craft" selection is really good too. Also just round the corner is in my opinion one of the best Currywurst imbiss in Berlin, Zur Bratpfanne

    I enjoy stopping it at "locals" pubs but I do that less in Berlin than other places, mainly because too many of them allow smoking! I haven'y been to most on your list but I have some that seem similar that I will pop in for a beer if I'm in the area. I rarely do it after about 7pm and many I only do in the afternoon. Even then, after about 2 beers I have to leave because the odor gets to me.

    I'm headed to Berlin in 3 weeks and will try and visit some of these, though right now my dance card is pretty full :slight_smile: Amazing how many new places have opened in just the last year or so.

    Sadly those days are likely behind me now, living Stateside and busy with life and whatnot. But if I ever do make it back I will be checking in with you.

    you know, its a funny one for me the smoking thing, i've never smoked in my life but the smoke in the kneipen just doesnt seem to bother me at all, its kind of just part of the atmosphere. i totally understand that its off putting for some people though. I have found lately that theres a surprising number of kneipen that dont allow smoking now you know. Foersters is definitely non smoking.

    The echte berliner kneipen are really what make berlin for me. Let us know which ones you get to!

    Great photos... I'll be in Berlin next week in fact and would love to hunt a few down... any particular order that you would recommend some of these places?
