Across the street from Metzer Eck is Watt, which I found had a more interesting beer list.

I am usually beer oriented, so I am looking for someplace that has something besides the 3-4 beers you find everywhere in town.

A bit farther afield (but still Prenzlauer Berg), places that I like that are in the "time warp" category

And it Mitte (not far from my usual hotel)

Yep, I’d go along with all the places mentioned above, particularly Willy Bresch and Bornholmer Hutte and yes, café prenzlau, go see Henry he’s a living legend. Also in Prenzlauerberg I’d recommend Bierstube Zur Linde just north of Danziger Str and Papa Heinz on the corner of Duncker Str.

For Friedrichshain I recommend the brewpub Hops and Barley (u samariter str) and Oberbaum Eck (s Warschauer Str)

For Kreuzberg I’d go with Zum Kleinen Moritz (u Moritzplatz) and maybe Schmitze Katze and Max und Moritz just up the road, oh and Zum Kleinen Markthalle too. Definitely Brinks (u Hermannplatz) and Bei Slawinchen (u Schonleinstrasse)

If you can I really recommend heading to Steglitz (u Walter Schreiber Platz) where you can hit three pubs on one street (Bornstrasse) in Foersters Feine Biere, Kneipenkoenig Zwei and Zum Lindenblatt, you can also get an excellent currywurst from zur bratpfanne while you’re here.

Another of my all time favourites is out in Gropiusstadt (u Lipschitzallee), the architecture around here is amazing and you can visit Brinks Treff and Bier Insel which are both top boozers.

I have many more favourites but most are a little further out so may be a bit of a trek for you so I’ll leave it at that for now. Most of the ones I have suggested are for atmosphere and historical importance rather than beer variety, however, some of them do have a surprising selection. Foersters has a massive selection of German biers and is a real beer centric place.

Let me know if you need any more suggestions, have a great time!
