So I have been looking into controling my fermentation temps, warming them up as my cellar is pretty cool. So far I have looked at brew belts, heating pads, heated blankets, however I stopped by my LHBS this weekend just to see what else was out there. The owner was actually fermenting a belgian when I stopped by using a submersable aquarium heater, a rubbermaid bucket big enough to hold the carboy and some water. Looks pretty easy, its simple, it has a built in thermometer as well. No johnson controller needed. Anyone here gone down this path? Any brands to stay away from? I've heard bad things about top fin and am looking at an aquanas 50w heater for ten gallons of water. It can ramp up to 90 degrees, and goes down to 60. Sounds perfect.
