I went there the first weekend. It’s a pretty cool spot, fairly small but cool. There were 5 or six beer on tap. The beers were all pretty good and they had some interesting takes on they styles (likely using home grown ingredients to qualify as a farm brewery). There is a hop field right as you enter the property, and I overheard them talking about 2 acres of vegetables or something. They were pretty busy and learning how to be open, so I didn’t really get to talk to anyone. The staff and owners were very friendly, through our brief interactions. They are doing a CSA type deal for the beer and I believe that they have a CSA for produce too. I'd certainly head back and take some guest too. Here's an article about them and photo in the local paper http://www.fauquier.com/news/in-the-hops-field/image_a9bf18fc-68a8-11e7-b5ea-d34c647b07b0.html http://www.fauquier.com/news/beer-f...cle_5c3b3a3e-684e-11e7-a652-33ffffd9a0f4.html
Yeah there are a lot of them. I don't really give a shit but the existence of a new brewery doesn't really warrant a thread, especially when the thread title is "another new brewery" and there is no commentary in the first post. Good info from @ashellen though.
I did a double take on that CSA abbreviation from Virginia. Probably agriculture and not historically related.
I found it funny that OP is from Cali and said we're craft beer crazed. Brewery per capita and by land area is actually pretty similar to one another even though you have probably close to +/- 700 breweries versus our +/- 200
I'm originally from Remington VA. I apologize for not providing more information regarding the brewery other than the link to their website. A friend of mine went yesterday and enjoyed all of their beers. Said it's a nice spot. I'll definitely check it out the next time I'm home visiting my parents and provide a detailed review of each beer and the brewery for everyone to enjoy.
Next time you are home head across the river and check out Old Trade Brewery in Brandy Station. Its another farm brewery, and probably a little closer to Remington. They've got a nicer outdoor area and better views than Powers, only had limited brews when i was there (they are still figuring out the production timing of things) but what we tried was good. Also have an outdoor play area (removed from the outdoor seating area) for children, if that applies to you. https://www.oldtradebrewery.com/ If you do make it to Powers continue into town and check out Wort Hog, good beers with free live music Saturday afternoons.
I've already been to Old Trade Brewery, but thanks for the suggestion. Checked it out when I was home earlier this year. I haven't been to Wort Hog or Far Gohn in Culpeper. Just found out Far Gohn exists. Looks like a decent spot. Didn't think much of Beer Hound Brewery when I visited it, but maybe I'll give them another chance when I visit Far Gohn. So many breweries opening up in Fauquier County and the surrounding counties. http://www.fargohnbrewing.com/ https://www.yelp.com/biz/far-gohn-brewing-company-culpeper-2
I was in Far Gohn last week. Far Gohn is better than Beer Hound in all aspects, of course imho. I think they have better beer, better atmosphere, better prices, and better (more knowledgeable and friendlier) staff. I havent been to Beer Hound in over a year so some of that may have changed.
Anyone been to Far Gohn Brewing in Culpeper and tried their new hazy beer? My parents went Saturday and sent me a pic, it looked good and they said it was good, but they also haven't had many hazy beers.
This spot in Brandy Station is putting out some decent beers too, particularly their Porter. Very nice and chill spot. https://www.oldtradebrewery.com/ https://www.facebook.com/oldtradebrewery/
Perhaps you could try a new thread with a more direct title. Several threads even, to get the conversation going that you would like. I'm actually from VA and this thread doesn't attract me, maybe because it doesn't have any immediacy. Too vague: didn't read.
I would agree with this statement. I only check this thread out when I see new posts because I live in Virginia and am curious what brewery someone is posting about. That being said, I have not been to Far Gohn or had any of their beers yet but the one you are inquiring about does have good reviews/ratings on Untappd, albeit only 21 so far. 4.38 rating. The comments people have left on their check-in are all positive. A nice looking beer photo does not always mean the beer itself is good but I will say the pictures of this one make me want to try it.
