I picked up a bottle of cuvee du chateau kasteel (2010 if the number on the bottle is the year it was bottled) and was wondering what I was in for is I harvest the yeast. First question; is there yeast in it? it is a very dark bottle and I cant see in it. second, what yeast am I likely to find and is it still viable? third, can I use the yeast, in primary?

sub-category of questions. if its bug based (bret is my concern mostly) do I need to relegate all that holds it to bret-inclusive fermentation after? I.e. how hard is bret to kill? other bret-related facts/links are welcome.

You can try make a starter with it and see if any sign of life comes out.
    Happy new year.

If the bottle is really from 2010, it is unlikely that you'll find any viable yeast cells to harvest.
