I'm shipping to Antwerp this summer from Maine and will be there for a couple days . Was just wondering which breweries/beers I should be sure to visit or get. Any suggestions would be appreciated! -Anthony
There are a lot of nice beer pubs, but only a few brewery. http://www.dekoninck.be/en/ http://www.pakhuis.info/index.php/en/pakhuis-eng/
There's the world famous Kulminator, which I didn't get to visit last year, as it opened too late on the day I was in town, but I very much enjoyed Gollem.... solid food, great bier menu, and top shelf service.... Prosit
Billies Bier Kafétaria. Awesome place with several taps that always change and a very nice bottle list. Solid food too.
Bars Billie’s Bier Kafétaria – wonderful, frequently rotating tap list, wonderful European breweries & choice great modern style Belgian breweries. ’t Antwaerps Bierhuyske – great place to drink unblended lambiek. Beers & Burgers Gollem – really improving tap list, nice bottle lists. Lots of interesting Belgian & choice European breweries. (first 3 are all 5 min. walk from each other – by far the best in town) Kulminator – place is really going downhill in my opinion. I wouldn’t really recommend it. If you really insist on visiting it, go early they often close doors when all seats are taken these days which can happen quite early in the day. Korsakov – if you do go to Kulminator, 5 min. walk. Hipster / student place with a really nice house beer, good for one round. Paters Vaetje – bit of a student bar, respectable, fixed bottle list, central. Bar Deco – locals place, light touch seedy, great place to drink cheap Girardin Black Label Afspanning ’t Waagstuk – bottle list is no longer that special or interesting, it is decent, quite & relaxing place. Oud Arsenaal – Americans always rave about how unique, local blablabla this place is. I think it is rude & rubbish etc. I have been there only once, I am not an exception. De Vagant – this is not a beer bar but it is essential if you like spirits. Massive, massive choice of jener (gin with juniper berries basically) Breweries De Koninck – recently renovated, very expensive tour, haven’t done it yet but it is supposed to be nice but not essential Pakhuis – awful to garbage beers with one exception which is okay, food is not good either, unless if you are doing Modern or Classical Art Museums, it is also quite out of the way to visit If interested I am up for a small trade / drink combo depending when you come. Hope this helps.
Thanks fellas! @77black_ships I'd love to bring some Maine brews with me and do some trades, but I'm going on a training cruise with the maritime academy and they don't allow any alcohol to be brought on from home!
Anyone in Antwerp tonight and feel like splitting a bottle of 3F Framboos at 't Antwaerps Bierhuyske? Send me a PM
