Coming to town with some friends for the weekend, and would like to open some bottles somewhere other than the hotel. Any places known for letting folks share a bottle or two (with the staff also)?

Whole Foods Downtown has a patio area that you can bring stuff to. Another food place is Pharah's off North Loop(mediterranean food, really tasty) ($3 cork fee), any food trailer park, like on South Lamar. There are a couple of other places, but you kinda have to know the staff there beforehand, they don't just allow randoms to bring in bottles.

Yeah, go upstairs at the whole foods. They have tables up there, and you can buy some local beers to throw into the mix. You know, or I can tag along with some bottles and show you where to go.

Like theortiz said, Pharas is a pretty bad ass spot to bring your own bottles.
