Any beer swishers out there besides me?

Swirling it round in my mouth? Yeah I do that sometimes (when nobody is looking)

No spitting though. Always swallow....

 

I do it when I am judging or evaluating a beer or if I feel like it and don't care who is watching. Likewise - no spitting. Always swallow.....

 

I've made it this long without ever spitting out beer, see no reason to start now. But I'm creature of habit, your mileage may vary.

Seems everyone here is not understanding what you @Bitterbill are talking about (or maybe it's me that is reading the question wrong? )
Are you not referring to swishing the beer in the glass?
I am guilty of this myself from time to time.

 

I would have thought swirling a beer round in the glass is (fairly) commonplace amongst beer geeks. "Swishing" to me means in the mouth.

 

I don't swish, all the carbonation flying out of solution is going to affect the mouthfeel and flavor. What I do is hold the beer in my mouth and slowly roll my head around, so that the beer comes into contact with all of my tongue before swallowing. That way, you get the full sensory experience of "taste," unadulterated by CO2.

 

You know your tongue is motile too---you don't need to roll your whole head.

Edit: but also, yes, I usually hold a beer in my mouth and push it around with my tongue for several seconds to see how the taste evolves.

Yes, I'm a Swisher....and I swallow.

 

I actually just stick my tongue directly in the glass and twirl it around.

 

I stand corrected then!!!! I have done this also but find most beers too carbonated to get anything out of the process.

I now have a vision of a bar filled with bearded guys randomly rolling their heads around like bobble-head dolls... thanks for that!

 

I like to Retro-nasal my beers-

1.) Take sip and roll it around in your mouth
2.) Inhale deeply through your nose
3.) Swallow
4.) Exhale out through your nose only

It's kind of a hybrid taste/smell thing that really helps you taste the beer more- ie subtle nuances you might otherwise miss.

 

I'm sitting in a County Board meeting....biting the crap out of my tongue trying not to laugh as all these images go through my head.
