I'll be moving to Charlottesville in 5 weeks and was wondering if there are any other beer advocates in Cville? I've been in Harrisonburg the last 10 years so I've been to town a number of times and know quite a few folks in Harrisonburg so I'm looking for people local to Charlottesville. I've been hosting weekly bottleshares at my house in Harrisonburg for the past six months and I'd love to find something similar in Charlottesville.

I'm a big fan of Beer Run but other than that I haven't done many other bars in town. I'll be in Pantops so Beer Run will likely be my hangout of choice rather than downtown.

    Drop me a line!

Also check Wine Wharehouse. Matt is great. If you need some stuff from the RVA (Hardywood, CoTU, Lickinghole, etc) let me know. I also do group Cantillon purchases from BiaB if that interests you.

Welcome to the Hook! I'm not aware of any scheduled bottleshares but possibly would be down for that (my schedule can be a little nutty). ThatCracker is correct, Matt at Wine Warehouse is great about getting the word out about limited releases but just as often I can find them just thrown up on the shelves of Beer Run with no notice.

Regarding bars, Beer Run is great but I find myself just as often hanging out at the two great breweries in town, Three Notch'd and Champion.

Wow @ThatCracker the guy asks for Cville BA's and all he gets is us Richmond guys haha (can't wait for my Westy's). @atrocity The best I can do for you is that my best friend lives in Cville within walking distance of Beer Run. While he is not at the level of Advocacy that we are at here discussing, he is an enthusiast along with his roommate and we have had many a blind tastings hosted at his place. I am there at least once a month, and at the very least can introduce you to some of the fellow enthusiasts in Cville including Jay who is the buyer at Beer Run. Check out Ace BBQ when you move in to town, it is heavenly (and offers Three Notch'd @seanchai . Cheers, wow never tagged so many people in a post before

Cheers for all the responses guys!

@ThatCracker I actually am on the Wine Warehouse email list so I really do appreciate how good they are with announcing stuff... sadly I've never even been in to the shop! That will certainly change when I move in. I've also had very little from RVA so I would certainly be down to getting stuff from there. Being closer to Richmond when I move I'm going to be checking it out for sure. Also, I will be definitely down for group Cantillon purchases at some point... though I will be visiting Cantillon in just over 7 weeks so I'll probably be set on bottles for a while.

@seanchai Definitely at Beer Run it does seem that you kind of never know what you're gonna get with limited releases. I have been to both Three Notch'd and Champion in town and I've met the brewers before as well a couple of times. I'm friends with Adam at Three Brothers (who comes to my weekly shares here in the Burg) so I've interacted with the folks at those breweries a few times. Three Notch'd also just opened a taproom and a 3 barrel system in Harrisonburg a week or two ago.

@VeganUndead I will have to check out Ace BBQ. I hadn't even heard of it! I'll be on the lookout for Jay when I move there. It's possible I've ran into him at Beer Run before but never knew.

Just wanted to drop in and mention that I'm a Cville resident as of last March (2013) and work in the valley (Verona to be precise). As such, I make it up to Harrisonburg often during the week (mostly to check out Midtowne, Three Brothers, and Capital Ale), but also frequent all of the Cville establishments. I would also highly recommend Champion, Beer Run, and Wine Warehouse as well as a few smaller shops and bars depending on interests.

If you're a fan of Berliner Weisses, Champion just did an Imperial (ie 6% ABV) Strawberry Berliner last week that is absolutely delicious, tart, and refreshing.
