Yes. It's a small menu. They do very few things but they do them right. Likely one of the best burgers you'll have. Avoid peak hours though

From the looks of it, I would end up being there around 6ish. Too busy around then? I just looked up the place and saw the menu. So, sandwich wise, they basically just have a single/double cheeseburger, bologna sandwich, and one other?

6pm? Cue the scene of Patrick Bateman trying to get a reservation at Dorsia:

I guess the hope would be that Tuesday may not be busy, especially if it's snowing, but I wouldnt count on it

Well, damn. I guess I should've done more research as I've never heard of the place before yesterday. Might have to stop in as soon as I get in the city. Would 2/3pm be a better time?

Small but amazing menu. Also a great beer selection. Stop in at 6, might have a 2 hour wait, but they take your phone number. You just go across the street to Haymarket and drink until they call!

Yeah, the Au Cheval wait is a little ridiculous (given how many awesome burger places there are in Chicago, if that's what you're there for), but the taking down your number thing makes it really painless. I've even done grocery shopping at Mariano's and Whole Foods while waiting for a call back, and they give you 15 minutes to come back and grab your table, so you've got plenty of room for error.

Also, if you get the burger, please get the bacon. You could make a meal out of that stuff by itself.

Alright, so I need to say a few things.

    1. Thank you all for the comments on Au Cheval. I (somehow at 4:30pm?) got a seat as soon as I got inside and had the single cheeseburger with bacon. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had (the Bongripper burger from Kuma's Corner here in Indy when they played with Goatsnake last month is my #1 burger of all time, though).

    2. I stopped at Haymarket and damn am I glad I did. My only regret in life is that I didn't buy more growlers of the Indignant variant aged in Belle Meade barrels for 22 months. Like, you have no idea how much I'm loving this stuff!

The last thing that I read was that Haymarket is opening a location in Michago and is scheduled to be operating this spring. From all that I've read about the quality of the beer from them, I'm looking forward to visiting them.

Yea. Haymarket is excellent. It'll be a welcome addition the the beer fridge.

Just so you all know, Haymarket will be throwing its annual Sausagefest party this month on the 20th. Tickets are $59.00 + Eventbrite fees and include sampling of 15 housemade sausages along with a few awesome guest sausages, 10 cheeses, and 20 beers & ciders. If you know anything about Haymarket's scratch sausages, you know that you need to make it in.

There have been several beers announced already including GI's Lolita, Begyle's Imperial Pajamas, Half Acre Chocolate Camaro, and FFF's Wiseblood as well as unannounced beers from Five Rabbit, Solemn Oath, Penrose, Off Color, Mood Tongue, and more. I know that Perennial will be bringing sumpthing exciting for everyone.

This is a little ironic, because I was looking at breweries by my friends house in Chicago and this is the closest one.

I was thinking that it must be a little underwhelming until I saw their tap list. I'm dragging him there.

Keep in mind that (at least in my experience) their taplist is usually different than what's on their website.

That's good to know. A lot of their beers just sound interesting in general, so I'll just go in assuming there will be a few things I'm curious about.

Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like it was a bad thing; it's usually a good thing. They've typically got at least a couple good IPA/DIPAs on tap, and their stouts are great. I wouldn't be worried about the selection, I mostly just meant that if you were looking forward to a particular beer, you'd probably want to call them beforehand just to check. It's worth going to either way, though. Kind of a sleeper in the Chicago beer scene, I'd say (and I'd love it to stay that way).

Their BeerMenus page is relatively up to date more often than not.

Went here with my wife last Saturday. The good is pretty solid, but their beers are legit. Artis Dream was a very good IPA and their Imperial Lakta was a slam dunk. To add to the love, they had Toaster Pastry on tap.

I'm glad I was able to make it yesterday before we flew back to LA. Gotta say, I was pretty impressed. I tried the Citra extra pale ale which I thought was excellent. I also got to try Acrimonious and Indignant; the latter being a barrel aged version of the same beer. This particular version was 2.5 months in Woodford reserve barrels. For only being 2.5 months I thought it had a good amount of barrel. The beertender there was really cool too and seemed to genuinely care about our experience and I had a good time chatting beer with him.

    I guess I could call.
