Any heavy duty bottles that will work with standard wing capper/caps?

    Hi all -

I've got an 100% Brett IPA fermenting at the moment. It's my first 100% Brett beer. My best understanding is that it will not finish as dry as a mixed fermentation. And certainly I'm going to make sure gravity is stable before bottling.

At the same time, I am a bit nervous about bottling a Brett beer that does not finish super low. Maybe my concerns are unwarranted, so long as gravity is stable before I bottle. But - if I am not set up for kegging, and I don't have a bench capper, do I have a good option? Are there any heavy duty bottles that I can use with a standard wing capper and caps? Maybe old Orval bottles, or anything else?

I may be looking for something that doesn't exist, and the answer may be that I need a bench capper, which is not the end of the world. But looking for an easier solution first.

When I homebrew beers with the intention of highly carbonating that batch I use returnable bottles which I cap using a standard wing capper. The issue here is that returnable bottles are no longer commercially used. I am not a user of online resale sites (eBay, Craigslist, etc.) but I wonder if you could obtain these bottles this way?

I have saved some Boulevard bottles that are a bit heavy duty (Tank 7, Sixth Glass) and a wing capper works for those bottles.

    Cheers!

P.S. A photograph of my returnable bottles:

My local homebrew shop carries 375 500 and 750 ml Belgian bottles that accept a standard crown cap.

Because I love responding to questions with suggestions rather than answers...

Buy that bench capper. Mount it to an old table. Live happily ever after.

    You won't regret it.

Buy a floor corker while you're there, too. Thank me after you cork and cage your first batch.
