The last "Barn Raiser" email came out in April and stated that if they had beer in their tanks by early June, they would aim for a mid-July opening, but did mention this was an aggressive target. I'm no construction expert but based on the pics of their progress on FB, I would assume they won't have beer in tanks for a few weeks. I'm crossing my fingers for an August opening, but think its safe to assume that once they start brewing, it will be 4-6 weeks until the doors open.

if you follow them on FB they posted pics of the tanks/equipment being delivered a week ago and they gave out some of the kickstarter rewards this past weekend in Raleigh/Durham area.

I talked to Ben when they dropped off the Kickstarter rewards in Winston last week and he said they were shooting for the first of August.

I'm really looking forward to these beers. As a younger man I lived in McLeansville on a farm way off of Red Clay Road that accessed the top of the Haw. That was some snaky territory but beautiful beyond belief. We went back in there often and found amazing artifacts and deep silence. Nowadays Saxapahaw is one of my favorite places way down river and I know this brewery will live up to the name and legacy of the origin of The Cape Fear River. Cheers.

Honestly, I'm glad they aren't rushing to open. It gives them plenty of time to tweak recipes. First impressions of a brewery are HUGE and if the product is sub par in the first few months it'll take a long time to overcome.

The opening date has been in constant motion despite their best efforts. But when it opens it will be the closest brewery to my house, and I couldn't be more excited. I think Ben is really taking the time to make sure everything is just right before they open. That said, many people had their first taste of his beer under the Haw River moniker nearly three years ago, so I can understand why people are wondering if they're ever going to open. When Darius is flowing freely it will all be worth it....

Agree that the fact that they aren't rushing to open is a good thing. Ben has too much respect for his vision and for his future customers to open their doors before the taproom and beer are 100% ready. Can't wait for the Darius to start flowing as it's probably one of the top 5 beers I've had the pleasure of drinking. Hope we can enjoy it for a year or two before it becomes a whale

These guys are going to take the NC beer world by storm in the same way Wicked Weed did (though without such a popular location). I'm with those of you who are happy to see them not rush it, but man am I eager to get out there!

Saxapahaw is a genuinely cool place with lots in common with Asheville. The entire area is beautiful and historic. B Everett Jordan was a United States Senator from 1958-1973. He owned the huge textile mill which today houses so many of the businesses and ventures that still sit above the Haw River in the little Saxapahaw enclave. He was preceded in office by the legendary William Kerr Scott- roads and education- followed by the inimitable Jesse Helms. I look forward to these beers.

I've heard it's beautiful and didn't mean to imply otherwise, just that people don't flock to Saxapahaw in the same way they do Asheville. Can't wait to visit the town for the first time!

There's not a lot in Saxapahaw other than the General Store which makes great food, The Eddy, (nice bar for sure) and The Haw River Ballroom which is a music venue. Also, there's lots of stuff on varying weekends outdoors. It is a lovely place. Tom Legarde, ex Carolina and NBA player is involved in making this place so nice.

Even though I'm in Charleston, been looking forward to these guys opening. Have to travel through that area somewhat frequently.

Ha! I looked it up yesterday on Google maps and was surprised to see it's less than two hours away from Charlotte. Look forward to visiting and stopping by some of the Triad breweries on the way there or back.

There isn't even a traffic light. One must appreciate the past to notice the future of Saxapahaw. It's the "feeling" of the place and people that reminds me of Asheville. Travel the old Greensboro Chapel Hill Road, out through old Quaker territory and you'll see. Coming down off of the escarpment from Boone or Asheville is always a "letdown" for me, but this area draws close to that same love of place.
