I'm biking from Chicago to Milwaukee (or possible Milwaukee to Chicago) on Easter Weekend and then taking the train back. Four questions:

    1) Anybody wanna join?

    2) Are there any Milwaukee beer releases that you've heard about, or are excited about? I would love to grab something special to take home.

    3) Any beer stores near downtown that let you do "build your own" six packs?

    4) Any breweries that you'd highly recommend that are near downtown? It seems like the Great Lakes forum has kinda left Milwaukee in the dust. Would love to hear brewery recommendations.

Thank you in advance! You guys and gals are awesome!

It doesn't seem like there are any releases coming up (especially considering the Easter weekend), but stay tuned in case someone ends up canning next week.

The Public Market lets you buy singles, but I don't know if you can actually build a six pack. They have a decent, if overpriced, selection of Milwaukee and Wisconsin standards and go-to's. The big thing being that Central Waters Peruvian Morning is hitting disto during this next week and you may be able to find it there.

You're in luck because Third Space Brewing is just down the street from the Amtrak station and it has been the favorite local brewery in my circle for the last year or so. They make a handful of hoppy beers (Unbridled Enthusiasm, Upward Spiral, Happy Place and its variations) that are all tasty and well differentiated. They do hit other styles (don't hold your breath one of their amazing BA beers will be on) and won a gold at GABF for their rye ale. City Lights Brewing is another couple blocks down from Third Space, but hasn't knocked my socks off. Milwaukee Ale House varies in quality, but I have a soft spot for their Louie's, Polish Moon, and O-Gii.

Other than that, I don't think downtown is all that great for craft options. Rumpus Room has a good selection, but tends to be overpriced. Cafe Benelux is reliable for Belgians and local options. Stack'd is good for a burger and beer. If you're up for biking out of downtown, Bay View is the premiere neighborhood, with Sugar Maple, Burnhearts, and Palm Tavern.
