I'll be moving to the Pittsburgh area in just a few short weeks for work and was wondering if there are any tasting groups in the area I could join.

I'm not sure of any groups, but I wanted to let you know that you are lucky. Pittsburgh is the greatest city in the Country. Enjoy!

I have helped organize a bigger tasting, but attend smaller ones in my neighborhood and have small ones at my house from time to time. Shoot me a msg when you get to the burgh and I will have you up for some good beers.

Thanks for all your input guys? On a different note, where are the best distributors in town to get cases and best bottle shops for six packs/bombers?

Depends where in town, definitely read through the threads above. D's and House of 1000 tend to have the most variety (That I've seen), but due to distribution laws you tend to pay a lot for 6 packs and singles in PA. You can get by pretty well with growler fills...There are a lot of breweries popping up, many with at least something worth bringing home.

I'm well aware of PA and its weird relationship with beer. Grew up in Philly and then Wilkes Barre/Scranton, been going to school in Erie, and now I'm heading to Pittsburgh for work haha. Nice thing is D's is only gonna be a five minute drive from my apartment it turns out.

I think D's is mostly expensive. Defnintely go to the Giant Eagle in Shaler up route 8 N.

D's is crazy expensive, but def the best selection (other than the house which is pretty far out, but worth a trip every once in a while).

Just recently saw Lost Abbey, Port, FW and Jolly Pumpkin shelf stuff at D's...not too shabby...but you'll def pay for it!!

How's the variety over there? Just moved in today and swung by D's to check it out.

I love hitting up the Giant Eagle in Shaler; usually a pretty good selection and much better prices. Make sure if you go to ask for Randy and get your name on his email list. Welcome to Pittsburgh!

Yeah my preferred run these days are to hit Shaler for sixes and four packs of regular releases and seasonals and then take the turnpike up to the House and get some harder to find stuff. It's usually a pretty good day of beer buying in the city.

That's not even the most egregious mark-up on that shelf. But, you get $1 off if you take it to go...
