    some abbreviations in the ISO:FT threads are deciphered easily enough, but is there a one-stop reference shop somewhere to help?

    my thought is that we might consider a stickied FAQ thread in this forum with links to a page with abbreviations, a link to packing tips, a link to international shipping tips, etc. we could add links to pages of different types as the community needs them.

    @Todd ?

    @F2brewers: I'd rather kill abbreviations and make everyone type in actual words, which makes it easier for most vs. convenient for a small group of users who in the know. But that's just me, and you asked. :wink:

    I'm not opposed to a list, but I think @Mike would agree that a database of global abbreviations and acronyms would be more flexible, extend beyond trading, and open the door open for other uses; association with other data, tagging, beer aliases, etc. But we could probably start with a list, and then import it into the database later.

    ^That just seems to be more work than needed, if there were no more avb's. (Lol)
    Everyone is quick to use abbreviations for a few short words and then turn around and "quote" the person previous person. WTH

    I feel like we do a pretty good job of asking one another if we aren't sure on an abbreviation someone has posted. I think maintaining a list would be overkill and an administrative nightmare.

    I'd be fine with abbreviations if they were consistent. It's hard to do a search for a beer in forums when some people spell it out and others abbreviate it in one of several acceptable forms.

    I'm not sure why people are so shy about asking what an abbreviation/acronym means or just simply Google it with the word "beer" as @GreesyFizeek said. As savvy as I am, I sometimes come across one I don't know. I Googled or asked. NO ONE will laugh at you if you asked. One person asks, the few other people who don't know gets the answer as well. Semi active traders know 90-95% of the time. Once in a while, a new trader or a long would complain about not knowing a few here and there and all of the sudden it's an issue again.

    I like this idea the most so far. Getting rid of acronyms makes it more cumbersome for the majority of active users of the trade forums while babying a small minority. Consolidate, educate, expand, reuse is the way to go.

    No idea how hard this would be on the back end, but one possible terrific application for the above would be adding tooltips (the thing that pops up when you hover your cursor over something on a web page) for acronyms in the forums. On top of being a boon to anyone who isn't familiar with an acronym, it'd help those who do know acronyms use them correctly/consistently.

    I like how most are quick to use Abbreviations to save time and space, yet are turn around a quote the 1000 words from the previous user. WTH?

    I assume you know that it takes one click to quote that 1,000 word response, right?

    I really doubt most people using abbreviations here are doing it to save space. This isn't Twitter - plenty of TL;DR posts abound. It's to save those precious 2.6 seconds!

    Google has always worked for me. In situations where it might be ambivalent I ask, ie BT, is it Black Tuesday or Broken Truck.
