I am planning on making a nice dry hopped fruited sour coming up, and had the recommendation to use Sour Weapon as my primary souring agent. It looks like Bootleg Biology is out for a while. :slight_frown:

Anyone have some that they have harvested from a batch of their beer that they might be willing to share, or some thoughts on a critter combo that would work equally as well?

Thanks for linking that!! Looks like a super cool website.

However, I do not have any advice. :/

I do not have any dregs similar or anything stored similar either.

Never used Sour Weapon, but Crooked Stave puts out some great sours with harvestable dregs if you can find any around NC. I poured around 200 mL starter wort into the bottom of a bottle of Surette and Wild Sage and saw activity within a few days. Once fermented out I added both to secondary. The brett and pedio are definitely doing their thing in there. They worked wonders on a dark saison that I have going.

My suggestion would be to harvest from bottle dregs of a good commercial sour. You'll spend around the same amount of money, and you get a beer to drink out of it as well. If you want a larger culture just build it up with some starter wort before pitching.

Since you're in NC, I've had success with Wicked Weed dregs in the past. Just make sure it's not a Brett beer or else you wont get any souring. You could use the dregs from multiple (different) bottles for added biodiversity.
