I'm fairly new to the area. I mainly go to B.B.'S on 21 and schoenerr and Red Wagon on Rochester. Any other places that I am missing out on?

Drive down Mound for about 10 minutes to 13 mile and hit Kuhnhenns and Cloverleaf.

Living near Kuhnhenns and not knowing about it ... I can only be jealous if you live near and know about it.

If you are a beer guy and live in town, Kuhnhenns is a must stop, espically if you are just north in Utica. Champanes is just a few blocks away. It would make for a fine beer geek Saturday!!! Champamnes has the lowest beer prices of any store I have seen in town.

    Welcome to The D!

I'm from here. I'm from Downriver though. Just new to Utica. I agree about Kuhnhenns. Embarrassing that I haven't been yet.

Kuhnhenn is a top five brewery. For shame.

I'll echo the Kuhnhenn statements, easily my favorite brewery in the area. I also like Dragonmead, lots of solid brews, but nothing mind blowing.
You might want to check out Main Street Liquor on M-59. They have a decent selection of stuff and it's close to you. Champagne's is great for regular stuff, but the limited things fly out of there due to the amount of traffic they have.

I've been to Dragonmead a couple of times. The last time I went there I got a growler of Reverend Fred's to bring to a friends house (tectactoe's house). The bartender asked if I wanted a new cap. I said sure thinking nothing of it. The thing wasn't even close to the original size. Beer was flat as can be by the time we poured it. We ended up drain pouring it all.

Yeah it had about as much carbonation as this Ice Mountain I got here.

Turned the cap to release... silence.

Up until a few years ago I had lived in Sterling Heights for quite a while. Red Wagon in Rochester was my go-to place for beers, and Put Thai & Sushi in the same plaza has some of the best Thai food in the area. Franklin Drug at 17 & Dequindre has a surprisingly good selection, with a lot of European beers is you're in the mood for something different. The Mound Deli on Mound between 19 mile and M-59 has a good selection as well.

As far as bars go, there are quite a number of breweries in the area. Kuhnhenn and Dragonmeade are probably the most popular, but Sherwood in Shelby, and Black Lotus in Clawson should not be overlooked. Though its been a while since I went there last, I remember the Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak having a good draft list.

There are probably a lot of places that I can't think of at the moment. If I think of them, I'll add them in, and if you are curious about some place, I have probably been there.

Thanks man. I have heard people mention Sherwood but had no idea it was so close. I will definitely check all of those places out.

Champane's Wine Cellars in Warren is one of the best bottle shops I have ever been to.

I live out in Macomb and echo what most everyone here is saying. Shamrock pub in downtown Utica also has a tendency to get a solid draft or two and being so close you might want to give that a shot.

I think the main thing here is get to Kuhnhenn and shoot me a message if you ever want to open some beer.

I definitely plan on going ASAP. This weekend at the latest. I'm always down for a pint or two. I'd love to find a group of guys/gals in the area.

We have a group in the Shelby / Romeo area constantly securing different beers, somewhat based on but not limited to the top 250, meeting for beer nights, cigars and CORN HOLE! Also, visit Kuhnhenn on the 21st and kill 2 birds with one stone. Great beer on tap and take home some BB4D.
