Overall, I'm in the fresh camp for IPAs. They are drinkable with age, but most of the floral, citrus even piney hop aromas and flavors definitely go very muted and have that "stale/bitter" transition after mulitple months of age on them. I can drink most of them with age, but just not my preference.

Is there any IPA out there where people claim "the sweet spot" of the beer is somewhere >3months of age? Just wondering, I haven't heard of any.

    Just like 1819-1820 and 1919-1920!

In the US during the latter period, it wasn't just the India Pale Ale aging in the casks in the brewery cellars - even the bottled and kegged IPA's were old because the breweries had closed :astonished::

So if you had a choice between Founders Azacca canned mid 2018 or canned 3/15/2019, which do you choose?

Nothing wrong with drinking and enjoying an old IPA, I just wouldn't consider buying an old IPA when there is almost always a fresh option available as I find fresh IPAs to taste better.

6 weeks seems to be my sweet spot.

I don’t mind usually but I have had a few hot messes that were nearing a year old. Oddly enough I wouldn’t buy anything older than say, three months. I think that canning has done a lot to extend freshness, even if for only a month or two but cans in my opinion hold everything together after the initial dropoff.
