Bought some while in Tenn. On their web site, it says: "It'll grow on you" I know, a play on words, but unfortunately, it did the opposite! The deeper I got into the six, the less I liked it! I actually choked down the last one, last night! Glad to be done w/it!

Sounds like my type of brew. I love altbiers and am a bit of a tree hugger myself. Alas, none available in RI :slight_frown:

With Alts, I think that there is a real love/hate thing in the US beer community. Actually, love/hate is too strong of a term, because it is more like/dislike, as I don't think that I have ever heard anybody say that it is their favorite or least favorite style. I happen to like Alts, but they rarely get rated well over all. I had two of these a couple of weeks apart, so I didn't have a chance for it to grow on me or for me to get tired of it, but I thought that it was very good. Are Altbiers something that you normally like? The malt can be a bit much for many people.

Didn't seem like much of an alt to me. Drank like a nondescript apa in my opinion. Totally forgettable. Seemed lime they just threw together a basic beer for the cause without putting much into it.

I think Alts in this country aren't made traditionally, so folks never get a true Alt to judge. These techniques include extended lagering (bulk cold storage) and they often are a decoction mash (an "easy" procedure for home brewers, not so much for commercial brewers).

I love Alts, and if you can find a "fresh" Uerige Doppelsticke to try I think you will love them too. BTW, traditionally Alts are not lightly hopped, they feature a good backbone of spicy Noble hops, especially Hallertau Tradition.

in addition to being a great beer, I like to use their bottles for my homebrew  i'm a sucker for fancy bottles.

As is the case with any species of brown ale in this country. It's just not...enough of anything for the jaded and stripped palates here. I don't think the majority of Americans even understand what it is.

    See?

I agree with the general statements about alts here. A real alt can be a pleasure, but not one the DIPA/barrel aged crowd necessarily will care for. It seems a shame that a beer that is excellent, but subtle cannot garner appreciation.

That said, Tree Hugger was a decent beer, but nothing to rush out for. For me, Otter Creek Copper is a better bet if you are looking for that style.

I'm hardly inexperienced with Alts. I've had a couple German examples and liked double bag; even made my own with moderate success. Based on the color, flavor, and aroma of tree hugger, it's an alt in name only

I found it to be nearly flavorless. Not a drainpour, I finished the sixer, but I'd never buy it again.

Meh, I have it a 3.59 - possibly my least favorite terrapin (probably). Kind of had a metallic taste to it

    Wasn't huge on it.

Finished the two I got free from work and didn't have a desire to try another. Terrapin is best with hoppy beers.
