Do cold press and get a thick extract. Figureout how many drops you need in 11oz, then dose the bottles.

Either a Rye Graf (I've got a can of rye extract with nothing better to do with it, and fresh, raw cider isn't going to be available much longer), or an stout along the lines of the APAS with different hops and a little less oatmeal (don't feel like buying more stuff for it, and the feedback on it sounded like it wasn't perfect anyhow).

I've got wine to bottle up, cheese to smoke, and then I'll see if I have some time to play on Monday. I just bought a sack of grain. When I do this, I want to brew something BIG.

Hello all, I am brand new to the world of brewing. My soon to be wife got me the brewers best starter brew kit for my birthday and the amber beer kit. I made it on Saturday and now I'm trying to forgot about it because all I want to do is drink it... She bought the deluxe kit which comes with the secondary fermenter, but from reading on here most people say to not use it.

I bought myself an IPA kit (which is a beer I like vs a beer my fiance will drink) and I want to make it but I need to wait for the primary to be freed up. So my question to you, move the amber and make IPA or be patient and wait 2 weeks for the amber to finish in the primary? I've been reading a lot lately on this topic so I know not to introduce O2 and to clean/sanitize thoroughly. Let me know your thoughts.

My advice: don't secondary something just to free up a fermenter. I.e. if your weren't going to do it, don't. Process changes driven by schedule don't improve beers.

Well, 2 days ago I would have done it. After reading on here for the past 2 days, I see that most people frown on secondary fermenters. When I got the kit, I read the book with it and they talk it up as a great thing, but probably because they want you to buy it. Any rate, the original plan was to use it. Now I'm hesitant.

Is your secondary a 6.5 gallon carboy? You could always use it as the primary for your next batch.

Even if it's 5 gallons you could brew a smaller batch.

It's a 5 gallon glass carboy. I think the easiest solution is to just buy another 6.5 gallon bucket and lid. They are fairly cheap and I am really enjoying this home brewing experience so I can see myself doing this for a long time to come.

I brewed an Arrogant Bastard clone on the Saturday after turkey day. It's going to set in the primary till next saturday then get bottled up. Was my third ever brew (all have been AG) and the first one I hit my exact OG which was 1.072. I'm doing the Pliny clone after I free up the fermenter next weekend, more to come on that
