[IMG] I guess since bottles are more rapidly giving way to cans, this might be the next natural step in beer-collectabledom. I'm in!

For me it's the difference between album art and cassette or CD covers, just not the same tactile experience even if they do something creative. Diff'rent strokes...

Understood. I'll save a can or bottle if it is old or special, but can't save 'em all because of limited space. I collect all things beer, and it might be a stretch, but I can envision a section of my wall devoted to those.

I have to wonder how many cans will have a graphic on the pull tab. Probably more than half of the breweries here in Michigan use a mobile canning service that throws on a plastic outer coating on the can with the breweries' graphics, but nothing on the top. Your pull tab may be a loner, but highly scarce and collectible.

PS - I like your new avatar. Self-made using a magic marker, or is it from a brewery?

I haven't seen them yet. When I do I'll probably save them because
    I save, well, everything.

    What beer/beers are they from?

I've seen them on other Firestone products as well as some other brewery's cans, including Budweiser. I think we'll see more soon. l wish the graphics were upside-down so l could just hang 'em
Firestone Walker's 805 (all of their beers appear to have new designs) on the left, Speakeasy, which appears to have just this one design.

Kind of both: That is a self-styled cap with my (pretty accurate, l might add) version of a homebrewing friend of mine's face. He makes some of the best beer I've ever had, but won't do anything with his caps, art-wise, so l did!

Get your artwork printed on 3/4" clear labels and give them to him.

Nope, nope, nope. I simply cannot undertake another collecting aspect (no matter how small they are). I am a crown collector, and I'm keeping it at that....because I have no more room between that and my classic horror movie memorabilia.

Cool. Anyway, I'll send some soon along with your caps. Kidding, of course, don't take a chainsaw to me, ol' buddy ol' pal...that return address of mine is fake...uhhh...AAAAAAAHHHHH!!! NNNOOOOOOO!!!!

Which reminds me of the old cap conundrum, "If a beer cap has never sat atop a beer, is it really a beer cap?"

An interesting conundrum, the answer to which in my mind could be 'yes', 'no' or 'maybe'. 'Yes' if it is a cap that is intended for use on a commercially produced beer and others of the same design have been used (such as the one I use for my avatar). 'No' if it is a design that is not intended to go on a beer bottle, e.g. the design has a collector's face or some other personal design or is made to promote a crowncap producer's product, sucha as a producer's trade sample! 'Maybe' if it is designed for use with homebrew products or was a design produced for a beer - but then never used commercially in favour of some other design. Are there any other permutations?

Those are pretty much my rules, too.
There's a collector of beer caps who l have traded with that has an old-school hand-capper (that doesn't leave the little ring-shaped impression) that he uses on any uncapped crowns going into his collection. I would do the same thing if l could find a cheap one.

Isn't that a slight deception if the cap hasn't actually been lifted from a bottle of the same brand beer! Each to his or her own conscience I guess. Would a 1987 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot cap in 'unused' condition be worth more than a 'used' one? It certainly would to collectors of only unused caps.

I was just kidding around. But when I was in college we used to play a game where when you opened your can, if you couldn't get the pull tab off without breaking the ring, you had to chug your beer. So I got pretty good at it.

This is an unknown skill to me. For the sake of sobriety, I shall practice on a can of Old Chub shortly.

The trick is, once you open the can like normal, rotate the tab to the 9 o'clock (or 3 o'clock) position so that the front of the tab (the part that normally pushes down on the pre-cut hole to open the can) is pressing on a solid part of the top of the can and pull up and towards that part of the tab. With a little practice, it should pull off the can without breaking the ring.
