Way to go! I went electronic a couple years ago, and it's made a huge difference. Of course, as my avatar shows, I can't resist a good Cuban when I'm outside the U.S. Just thinking about the Partagas Serie D I had with a Kasteel Donker last summer brings a smile to my face.

I went electric as well! It has helped tremendously and honestly, I don't know if I'd have been able to do it without it. Cheers!

I've been feeling this thread recently... a few examples:

-I hate the taste of coffee, yet every year I find myself tracking down KBS, BCBCS, etc because of the hype

-I bought 2 bottles of Dissenter just because I figured it'd be awesome and then I wouldn't be able to find it again. Tried it, thought it was pretty meh and now I've got another bottle in the fridge that I'm not interested in drinking, cause new stuff that I actually want to drink is in there too. Meanwhile Dissenter is still sitting on shelves everywhere a couple months later

-like 8 months or a year or so ago, I bought a bottle of Evil Twin BA Biscotti Break because of the reputation it has on here, even though it was $25, which is a ridiculous amount to spend on a single bottle of beer (or non-Cantillon beer for me, at least), and it's been sitting in the closet. Then when it was in stores again last month, I bought another bottle before it disappeared, but I haven't even tried the first bottle I got to know if that was worth the $25 price to begin with.

I am going to significantly cut down the amount of money I spend on beer and stop doing stuff like tracking down beers. I'll still buy stuff in different cities that I can't get at home when I'm travelling, and I'll still get good stuff, but I'm not going to buy beer that I don't intend to drink right away anymore. That $$$ is going to go to my retirement account or daughter's 529 instead...

On more than one occasion I've flown across the country to run a Spartan Race, and I've spent $150 on a pair of trail running shoes because the pair I spent $130 on a month earlier didn't feel quite right, so I don't feel too bad about my beer spending.

Everyone needs some kind of wasteful indulgence.

Just went through a re-evaluation of my beer purchases, especially since I am fresh out of college with a fresh out of college salary. Beer has been making up wayyy too large of a percentage of my income. I think I'm gonna start buying a case every 2 or 3 weeks and see how it works out, instead of buying 2 four packs and three 750 ml bottles every weekend. Not ideal, but hopefully I can make it work for the time being while the savings pile up

What a timely thread. I just spent about $250 more than I planned to on a weekend road trip from Tampa to Charlotte...ended up going to Asheville (a costly but oh so fun mistake) and of course had to hit no less than 4 bottle shops, well, just because you never know what you'll find. Add in a.l visit to NoDa and I was afraid to look at my bank account until a few hours ago, and I wish I hadn't.

    I need an intervention.

You think Breakfast Stout is expensive? I just picked up 3 4pks here for 9.90 each. Try some Prairie stuff like bomb for $28 a 4pk or Bible Belt for $35. Now that's expensive! ...and yes I've paid it! Prairie is very proud of their stuff. After that, I feel quite frugal after buying breakfast stout.

I tend to believe this as well. A wine connoisseur will wait months to buy one 750 ml bottle of some expensive Bordeaux wine like Chateua Lafite for 1500 dollars and consider themselves lucky. I think Bell's Two Hearted is one of the finest beers on the planet and it can be had at most grocery stores for 11 dollars or so a 6 pack.

I tend to spend more than I expected at the liquor store, but it rarely presents an issue. At most I might of spent 10 or so dollars on a bomber that looked good which I didn't account for.

That's why I buy six packs at the grocery store and only go to liquor stores with the intention of buying something nice. Problem solved.

The problem is , we all have a list a mile long but must limit the choice. This is the hardest part for the love of beer . I have tried the rotation method but theres always a new one that comes out with and its usually $9.00 . Its good to have a $14.00 twelve pack then 2 six packs or 4 packs to start off . Each week or middle of the week add another six, stay away from bombers every week. Buy bombers every other week. A growler or two once a month. This scenario is just a experiment and not fixed in stone. Money is an issue only cause of too much to try. That's why theres such a great interest in beer. I sometimes start thinking of what I'm gonna buy before I go to the store caused by cravings in remembering their flavor.

Breakfast Stout is reasonable at $11 a four pack.

I guess the one good thing about living in this part of mass is that i dont really see limited release beers. Dont get me wrong, we have bottle shops that have a huge variety, but its all stuff i see all the time so its easy to resist not buying.

What im having a hard time with right now is jacks abby. They are coming out with all these limited beers that are brewery only. I take the 1 hour and 20 minute drive and cant just get 4 beers because i convince myself "i drove all the way up here, i mine as well take back a good haul" So then i end up spending over 100 each time.

Thank god i dont live in california, maine or any other city with big name breweries lol

I spend between fifty and a hundred a week at the liquor store. And I don't make a whole lot of money. Sometimes I feel like one of those crazy old ladys who collects expensive baskets or something. Those old ladys could buy relatively inexpensive mass produced baskets for a fraction of the cost!

$18/6pk for cans and $19 for bottles in PA. No one but NO ONE buys Sculpin out here.

I lived in PA a long time, and I never bought it either. Boy I miss Bell's 2HA and Fatheads HH. :slight_frown:

Yup, it is an issue. I would say my monthly beer expenditures vary between $150-$200, with some months going well over due to some big release or find. BCBS release is REALLY going to hurt my wallet. :grimacing:

I base my price evaluation on bars charging you five bucks for a Budweiser. If a craft beer is cheaper then that it's a steal.
