I've found the best way to budget myself is to only buy beer with cash. I use my debit/credit card for pretty mich everything else, so I dont typically have a ton of cash on me. If i dont have the cash, i dont get the beer. Plus this has the added benefit of keeping the purchases off of the card statement, so it avoids awkward conversations with the wife about my "beer spending problem".

I went in the other day with the intent of just grabbing a cheaper pack and a cheaper bomber so $15 round about. I leave spending $35 on 3 Gueuze....

Maybe not cheap, but certainly reasonable. Comes out (as I am sure you know ) to $2.50 for a 12 oz bottle of a world class beer- maybe THE world class beer (That would be less then $5 for a bomber fellows). I just got suckered into spending $15 for a four pack of New Holland Dragons Milk and it's not even in the same league as Founders Breakfast Stout. So much for being adventurous.

Try leaving the plastic at home and just take a lil cash.

Unless your trading those beers away, its called borderline alcoholism. Its obvious your buying a lot of beer each week, week in. week out and the financials are a problem. That much you have stated. See if you can buy less, drink less. If not.....join the exclusive, dysfunctional club of alcoholics. Full membership is dependent on your ability to recognize and accept this fact! Good luck.

Im from Australia so good beer is expensive. When i check online to see what my local liquor stores have got in i usually decide then and there what i will buy and what i wont. Two days ago we got a big shipment from the US and i blew $250 without a blink thou that include a case of Fresh Squeezed which cost me $130 shiattttt.

Trust me , it could be worse, you could live here in PA like me where the bottle shops are far and few between. I have to walk into a distributor where you have to buy a whole case. for me its even worse becasue i ussally go like a kid going to a candy store atleast twice a week durning my lunch hour to see what if anything is new to the shelves. I average over $60 a week because of my addiction to great beer :slight_frown:

I like to shop at a good beer store and get a mixed sixer, often based on the season. I have my favorites and keep notes on new ones, so I don't repeat a stinker. I rely on BA's reviews a lot!

I think you have the right angle. The people who never complain about the bar prices and how much they tend to spend on a night out, but do complain about Sculpin sixpacks can really get on peoples' nerves. Sculpin on draft is easily $7-8, so on the tab at the end of the night if the tip is 20% then those folks are tipping a half bottle of Sculpin per Sculpin enjoyed at the pub! But even worse, take that 20% tip on top of the $8 and you're pretty much at $10 per pour. $10 per pour, but a $15 sixpack is excessively pricey...:rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes: That atmosphere and service must really be worth it.

I don't know what to say. I visited 3 liquor stores today with $200 bucks in my pocket. Cash so the wife wouldn't yell at me. Perhaps I have a problem......

Maybe I justify spending a lot on beer because I can get a case of really good beer for less than $2 a bottle/can. Sure beats paying $5 per draft at a bar!

I spend whatever I want at the store but I offset it by almost never going to the bar...unless something special is on tap.

I try to limit myself to the 40-50$ range on The Hobby per week. Buying an additional bottle of wine to appease the wife usually throws that out the window :stuck_out_tongue:

Guys, and Gals, I've read this whole thread, and started a reply that I did not make, a few times. I don't really know what to say. I've been lucky that I've had a decent paying job for most of my working life. I also feel kind of lucky that Craft Beer did not really boom until my kids were out of school! What I spend on beer now would really have hurt my future and financial outlook at this point in life. I guess we just need to learn to budget and to live within our means. Not much fun, with all of the great beer available today.
