I'm curious about getting a large shipment of beer directly from this Belgian website. Has anyone here done this? Are their extra taxes that I'd have to pay? Also worried about breakage, although their website claims they never have any issues.

FWIW, I've always heard Etre is the best value. Haven't actually tested that out across sites, though.

Was seriously tempted by that lambic collection Belgiuminabox offered up (Fou!) but, while I was mulling it over, that sold out. :slight_frown:

I won't buy some things from Kurt because his prices can be unreasonable but otherwise everything has been great. His packing is excellent. No need to worry about breakage.

Thanks for the info. And wow, that Lambic collection sold out fast. I just got an email about it a few hours ago.

Anyone know what the price on the box was? I opened it up about two hours after receiving it and it was already out of stock so no price listed.

I have used them, It took a total of like 14 days start to finish, great packing, prices seemed fine, however, I stayed with the more standard Cantillon bottles, gueze , kriek, rose .

Belgium and Etre are very close on pricing for most items. Honestly I built carts on both sites to compare shipping & handling charges. Also pay close attention to vintages. Ordered from Belgium ultimately and it was less than 2 weeks to my door, even though it was "held" in customs. Also, the beer is packed to survive Armaggedon.

One other concern I have is ordering during the winter. Any chance the bottles might freeze and break? That happened to me once last winter, but the bottles were not alcohol. I live in Minneapolis, FYI.

I have read on some trading threads, cantillons/ other corked bottles are known to leak a little (even in normal temps). All of mine seemed fine, however, I ordered in march. I'd read their return/damaged good policies. I know back when Cascade shipped, they said if the bottles froze, it was on the buyer.

I'd be worried in MN also that if customs decides to hold it and contact MN revenue you might just not get the product at all. Legally you can't have it shipped to you, there is nothing in the law saying you can have it shipped and then pay the tax. Might be a minor concern, but since they have been contacting all the liquor stores that used to ship to MN, I wouldn't put it past them.

My experience has been that airmail is handled in a way that freezing is not an issue. I had a box of lambics delivered a month or so ago in subzero temps and no problem (not even cold let alone frozen). On the other hand the case of Abrasive delivered today from France44 had 4 frozen/burst cans.
